Amanda Mealing, star of Casualty, breaks her silence on the ‘chaotic’ Coronation Street set.
Amanda Mealing, star of Casualty, spoke exclusively to This website about her “chaotic” time on Coronation Street.
In an interview with This website, Amanda Mealing, 54, talked about her time as a director on Coronation Street.
Aside from her successful on-screen and off-screen career, the actress was eager to discuss her work with WaterAid, after recently delivering a letter to Downing Street signed by nearly 20,000 people addressing the world’s growing climate crisis.
Amanda left Casualty in April, after her character Connie Beauchamp made an unexpected exit that left fans stunned.
The actress decided she needed a break from acting and landed a role on Corrie after gaining some directing experience while working for her production company.
“Chaos,” she said when asked about her experience directing the popular soap.
It was a complete disaster.”
“It was great fun,” she went on to say.
It’s a legendary show, after all.”
Despite her long-running roles in both Holby City and Casualty, the actress admitted that she was a little taken aback by the show.
“I even found myself photographing the Rovers and stuff like that,” she admitted of the famous pub.
The actress went on to describe a particularly tumultuous day on the cobblestones in July, when the Queen made an appearance to commemorate the channel’s 60th anniversary on television.
“Having the Queen appear in the middle of your shoot is unprecedented!” Amanda admitted.
“I had to vacate the street one morning because Her Majesty arrived, and then I found it impossible to get anyone to focus in the afternoon.”
“So I’m blaming the Queen for not finishing my shot list that day.
She joked, “So she owes me one.”
Amanda also revealed her favorite scenes to direct from the show, which were from Maria Connor’s (Samia Longchambon) and her son Liam’s storylines.
“We’ve turned her into a badass b***h now,” Amanda told Samia, referring to her character.
As a result, she had a lot of fun with the role.”
“I was really surprised – pleasantly surprised by his approach,” she said of the young actor portraying Liam’s realistic, researched depiction of an asthma attack.
“I believe he has the makings of a star.”
Amanda is a professional.
