After a showrunner tease, Josie and the Pussycats reassemble with new members in Riverdale season 5.
As producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa outlines what’s next for Josie and Toni in the rest of season five, RIVERDALE’S most popular music trio could be prepared for a comeback tour.
The musical episodes of The CW’s glossy and befuddling young adult series are legendary. The popular American drama’s next all-singing, all-dancing spectacular is due to feature some familiar names, with the back half of Riverdale season five still to come and new episodes releasing in the UK the day following on Netflix. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has hinted at a new look for Josie and the Pussycats, the town’s most popular female group.
Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan) and Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray) will also make appearances before the end of Riverdale’s fifth season.
Josie’s comeback for the next season five musical episode could mean that her high school band, Josie and the Pussycats, is reformed.
Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa teased Toni and newbie Tabitha Tate (Erinn Westbrook) as the newest members of the popular female trio in the forthcoming second half of the fifth season.
“Toni is back in plenty of time for our annual musical episode,” he recently promised TVLine. Toni has remained a regular member of the cast thus far, while actress Vanessa Morgan will be away from certain episodes of the current season due to maternity leave.
Morgan’s pregnancy was thankfully built into the series, and she will continue to be a regular on Riverdale in the future.
More musical episodes could indicate that the erstwhile Southside Serpent is on his way to become one of Josie’s backup vocalists.
“In fact, she’s back in time for our ‘Pussycat’ episode,” Aguirre-Sacasa continued, “and she’s performing a musical number with Tabitha Tate and special visitor Alexandra Cabot, which is heavenly.” Episode 15, The Return of the Pussycats, has revealed the band is indeed returning for one last Riverdale original.
The quartet took Riverdale High by storm with Valerie Brown (Hayley Law) and Melody Valentine (Asha Bromfield) until Josie split to pursue a solo artist.
Despite the fact that Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) briefly took over as lead vocalist of ‘Veronica and the Pussycats,’ the band hasn’t been seen on the show since season two.
