Adam Rickitt discusses his fears of sabotaging his GMB star wife’s ambition of having a large family ‘I had no fertility.’

On Wednesday’s Loose Women, Adam Rickitt discussed his experience with male infertility, including his anxieties of informing his Good Morning Britain wife Katy Rickitt that they wouldn’t be able to have a large family.

The soap actor, who has appeared in both Coronation Street and Hollyoaks, appeared on ITV’s Loose Women via video to encourage men to talk about fertility issues, which is often a taboo topic. Adam and Katie have been married since 2014, and Adam explained how he was diagnosed with an inflammatory disease that prevented him from having children. He expressed concern to viewers that he would sabotage Katy’s plans for a large brood.

“I’m not sure why, but I’ve always worried that I wouldn’t be able to [have children],” he explained.

“I never imagined myself as a parent. I was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis at the age of 22.

“It’s an autoimmune disease that can have an impact on male fertility.”

The 43-year-old said he was hesitant to inform Katy because she came from a large family and desired a family of her own.

“So I said I’m going to get tested,” he explained. So I flew down to London to see a very beautiful gentleman.”

He was told he had a low sperm count, but his worries were directed toward his wife.

“I was infertile,” he said. “Like I said, it’s terrifying because I knew Katie came from a strong family.

“At the time, saying we wouldn’t be able to was nerve-wracking.

“In my opinion, even if Katy couldn’t have children, I would still want to be with her.

“I was never afraid of abandoning her; I was afraid of depriving her of something.”

When asked about her reaction, Katy remarked, “I mentioned earlier that I didn’t bat an eyelash, and I truly mean that.”

“If Adam can’t have children, neither can we – that’s the way things are.

“It was like, ‘Okay, so what do you want to do instead?’” she explains. We merely wanted to do stuff with each other.”

The couple claimed that their three dogs were like their children, allowing them to do things they wouldn’t be able to do if they had children.

Katy explained, “We have the dogs, and we have a company together.”
