Romania – Factors to watch on Sept. 6

BUCHAREST, Sept 6 – Here are news stories, press reports and events to watch which may affect Romanian financial markets on Thursday.

The finance ministry plans to sell 100 million lei ($25.07 million)worth of September 2031 treasury bonds and an additional 600 million lei of 364-day discount treasury bills.

Justice Minister Tudorel Toader is expected to announce a new anti-corruption prosecutor to replace Laura Codruta Kovesi. He was interviewing six candidates for the post over the past weeks.

President Klaus Iohannis was required to fire Kovesi in July, under a constitutional court ruling which critics say might leave prosecutors exposed to political interference.

Central European currencies extended losses on Wednesday, still under pressure from a strong dollar, and ahead of the Polish central bank’s (NBP) meeting where it is expected to keep interest rates on hold.
