The Pittsburgh Pirates activated right-hander Joe Musgrove from the 10-day disabled list to start Tuesday night against the Washington Nationals.
Right-hander Alex McRae was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis in a corresponding move.
Musgrove returns after a minimum-length stint on the DL with an infection in his right index finger. The 25-year-old is 3-3 with a 3.79 ERA in seven starts this season.
Musgrove didn’t make his first start this season until May 25. He was on the disabled list with a muscle strain in his right shoulder.
For his career, Musgrove is 14-15 with a 4.38 ERA in 56 appearances. He has started 32 games.
McRae, 25, was promoted to the big league roster from Indianapolis on Saturday. He did not make his major league debut during his short stint with the Pirates.
