Cops try new footy finals safety approach

Police are ditching street corners during footy finals in favour of joining sports fans as they head from pubs and public transport hubs to the games.

As well as uniformed officers moving with the crowds, undercover police will also be out in force to keep people safe and crack down on scalpers trying to sell high priced tickets to AFL finals matches.

North West Metro police commander Tim Hansen says punters will notice the higher police presence, particularly on Thursday and Friday night when four Victorian teams go head to head.
