Manchester United fans resigned to losing David de Gea

Manchester United fans have reacted furiously to the news that star man David de Gea has reportedly turned down the club’s final contract offer.

The Red Devils exercised an option in De Gea’s contract to extend his present deal until 2020 but talks over extending any further have ground to a halt.

And the Spanish goalkeeper has now made it clear that he will not be staying at Old Trafford beyond next season, according to recent reports.

De Gea was voted the Premier League’s best goalkeeper in five of the past seven seasons and was voted United’s player of the year for four straight seasons between 2014 and 2018.

After the news broke about the latest impasse in negotiations, fans did not hesitate to tweet their opinions.

@JuniorfergPaul wrote: ‘No doubt we owe him for this season, but like Fergie says, no player is bigger than the club. We have the best No.2 in the world, maybe he could be the best No.1’.

@Pineappple_King agreed, tweeting: ‘As a Man United fan I will be sad to see him eventually go but also no point having a player in your team who doesn’t want to be there just sell him and get a replacement player who does want to be there’.

Those sentiments were not shared by @philstandish though. He wrote: ‘We have Deano (Henderson).. but De Gea leaving would not be good.. Unless he no longer wants to play for the club.. We shouldn’t be begging players to stay if true.’

@tefltheatre seemed to sympathise with De Gea. He tweeted: ‘Bad second half of the season. But he’s a wonderful servant to the club and whatever he decides to do, I say Good Luck, mate.’

The news has now put pressure on United to cash in on De Gea this summer, rather than lose him on a free in a year.

French giants Paris Saint-Germain are ready to meet De Gea’s market value of £350,000 a week and are now considering a £60million bid in the current window.
