Manchester United are considering a move for Tottenham’s Eric Dier as they search for midfield alternatives to Nemanja Matic, according to reports.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to add some English talent to his squad following a disappointing campaign last season, which saw United miss out on Champions League football.
And according to the Times, United’s hierarchy are monitoring the situation of Dier, alongside fellow England international Declan Rice, but the club feel Tottenham would be more open to doing business than West Ham.
Dier only made 18 appearances during the 2018-19 campaign due to injury and poor form, with Mauricio Pochettino opting for Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko in midfield.
Solskjaer is looking to put his stamp on the United squad after taking over on an interim basis from Jose Mourinho in December before getting the job permanently in March.
And one of the Norwegian manager’s first job is finding an upgrade on Matic, who struggled at Old Trafford last season.
