Golden boot winner Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ready to take scoring form into Europa League final

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is ready to take his scoring form into the Europa League final – despite a wait of more than two weeks.

The Arsenal striker finished on 22 Premier League goals in his first full season in England, sharing the golden boot with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

His brace at Turf Moor followed on from a hat-trick in Valencia on Thursday and he has seven goals in his last four games. He is eagerly anticipating the clash with Chelsea in Baku on May 29.

Aubameyang said: ‘We did well on Thursday and personally I did well, yesterday as well, I could have scored a third goal but missed a sitter. Sometimes that can happen.

‘Unfortunately we have to wait now more than two weeks to play the final but we will prepare this game and be ready for the final.’

Aubameyang, the Gabon international, said topping the scoring charts ‘means a lot’.

He added: ‘I am really happy and proud of it. I am sharing this trophy with Mane and Salah. I like these two guys. We are representing Africa so it is a good sign for the continent.

‘I am really proud and I have to thank my team-mates for helping me to get it.’

Aubameyang moved to Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund for £56million in January 2018 and believes he will get better.

‘I had great seasons as well in Dortmund,’ he said. ‘This one was a tough one. I would say in truth maybe not the best but I gave everything to try to be in the top four with the team and to get a trophy. I am happy with my season, not the best but I am happy.

‘It is always a tough battle when you play a game here in England and you have to be ready physically. That’s the most important change when I came here from Germany.

‘It took a little bit of time. I had six months to adjust me to this league. I think I did well in the first six months and now I have the whole season. I am happy with that. Hopefully I will do better next seasons.’

He added: ‘Now you can say the Premier League is the best in the world because four clubs are in the finals and as we saw this season, Liverpool and Manchester City played the last game for the title. So that’s why I came here, for that.’
