Rusev and Aiden English defeated Cesaro and Sheamus, The Bar, to become the number one contenders for New Day’s SmackDown Tag Team Championships. The two team will square off this Sunday at WWE’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view.
Sheamus was pegged to win the match after ramping up for a Brogue Kick, but English pushed Rusev out of the way to protect his partner allowing for The Bulgarian Brute to hit an unsuspecting Sheamus with the Machka Kick for the pin.
Before winning the number one contendership, Rusev and English defeated both Sanity and The Usos to make it to their match against The Bar on this week’s SmackDown. The Bar overcame The Colons and The Club.
The Bar and New Day have squared off on SmackDown Live recently. The two teams squared off to determine who went on to face The Bludgeon Brothers (Luke Harper and Erick Rowan) at SummerSlam, a match that New Day would win.
Sheamus and Cesaro were also the team that ended New Day’s historic 483-day title reign when both were on Monday Night RAW’s roster. However, this will be the first time New Day and Rusev Day will come face-to-face in a tag team match.
WWE announced New Day and The Bar will face each other at the Super Show-Down event in Australia this October, but that card is subject to change.
Hell in a Cell will stream live on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. EDT on the WWE Network.
