ZINEDINE ZIDANE has completed his return to Real Madrid – with Santiago Solari being sacked as manager.
The Frenchman left the Spanish capital last summer after guiding the club to three successive Champions League crowns.
Zidane was replaced by Julen Lopetegui just days before the World Cup before the Spaniard was dismissed himself in October.
Since then Solari has taken over but has failed to achieve success with Los Blancos.
And Zidane has now completed a stunning return to the Bernabeu on a contract until 2022.
His first match back in charge comes against Celta Vigo at home this Saturday.
Zidane has been heavily linked with another of his old sides, Juventus, in recent weeks.
But Zidane has chosen a Bernabeu return less than a year after his departure.
“I love this club,” he told reporters when he left, five days after winning the Champions League in Kiev.
“What I think is that this team needs to continue winning but I think it needs a change, a different voice, another methodology.
“This is the right moment for all involved – for me, for the squad, for the club.”
Jose Mourinho was linked with a Real return following his sacking by Manchester United.
But Zidane has pipped the Portuguese to the post.
Real have little to play for this season, with Barcelona set to win the La Liga title and also dumping their rivals out of the Copa del Rey in the semi-finals.
Ajax ended their dominance in Europe too, with a stunning 5-3 aggregate win in the Champions League last-16.
