Why Tottenham boss Maurico Pochettino has been handled UNFAIRLY – PAUL MERSON COLUMN

MAURICIO POCHETTINO getting a touchline ban is so unfair.

You don’t send people to prison for a first offence, do you?

It was caught on camera when he had a pop at ref Mike Dean so the FA probably thought they would have to get tough on it.

But you have to take a manager’s record into consideration – and his record is impeccable.

What Pochettino did was very out of character and he obviously reacted to something the ref had said to him.

But he backed down and apologised straight afterwards.

He knew he was in the wrong and he fessed up.

I thought they could have been much more lenient under the circumstances.

Dean said something to him and he bit. I’m sure he regrets it.

I just think a touchline ban is very harsh. They could have given him a warning, or even a fine.

Did they have to go that far? It’s not like he’s a repeat offender testing the boundaries is it? I think Spurs have been hard done by.
