Jo Andres was a filmmaker, choreographer and artist who experimented through a number of mediums during her career.

She first became known on the kinetic downtown New York performance scene of the 1980s film/dance/light performances.

Later she was artist in residence at a number of leading universities and museums across the world.

She was known for creating modern types of cyanotypes using an iron-based photo process that creates striking, deep blue images.

In a 2013 interview, she advised creative individuals to: “listen, feel, look, observe, use your senses, keep yourself aware, and most of all show up and slow down”.

The death of Jo Andres was announced on January 11, 2019.

The filmmaker and artist passed away several days before with family and friends around her, according to EOnline.

The cause of her death has not yet been confirmed.

Jo was married to actor and director Steve Buscemi, who she wed in 1987.

Buscemi, 61, had his break in Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs before embarking on a successful Hollywood career.

Together they had one son, Lucian, born in 1990.

The couple, who lived in Brooklyn, were last seen together on the red carpet in July at The Cinema Society screening Of Puzzle in New York.

Andrews directed a number of films, including Lillian Kiesler: On The Head Of A Pin (2000) and Black Kites (1996), which played several film festivals including Sundance, Berlin and Toronto.

Jo also directed music and art videos and her own film performance works, according to her personal website.

She was also a dance consultant to the acclaimed Wooster Group, with her choreography seen in the 1998 movie The Imposters.
