LIVERPOOL fans are buzzing after Matthijs de Ligt suggested he would open to moving to Anfield.
The Ajax centre-back has emerged as one of the hottest prospects in world football after winning the prestigious Golden Boy award.
De Ligt, 19, indicated a move to play alongside international team-mate Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool “could happen”.
And Reds fans are desperate to see Anfield bosses get a deal over the line.
One supporter wrote on Twitter: “Man I’d be so happy if de Ligt signed with Liverpool.
“We need a player of his quality, Lovren is not good enough to be on a perennial title contender and Gomez is too injury prone.”
A second said: “De Ligt name dropping Liverpool again.
“Would be delighted if we done a deal for the lad.”
A third wrote: “Van Dijk x De Ligt – The Great Wall of Liverpool.”
While a fourth commented: “De Ligt to Liverpool would be amazing.”
De Ligt is being pursued by a string of Europe’s biggest clubs including Barcelona, Juventus and Arsenal.
But he has admitted the chance of play alongside Van Dijk at club level could sway him to join Liverpool.
He said: “Virgil is a player who has experience in the top leagues.
“Of course you want to learn from him. It’s very useful to play next to him in the Dutch team.
“It could happen [joining Liverpool]. He plays for Liverpool. A nice club.
“But I’m not focused on this. I focus on Ajax. And then I will see where I will end up.”
Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has admitted De Ligt’s “name is on the table” ahead of the summer transfer window.
