A man escaped unharmed Thursday after his small motorcycle crashed on a railroad track in Mesa after he went around a lowered barricade arms in an attempt to beat an oncoming train, police said.
The motorcycle became stuck on the track. As the man tried to pull it off, he was forced to leave it and run off as a train approached the crossing on Dobson Road, Mesa police said.
The train struck the motorcycle, forcing the train to stop and shutting down Dobson Road in both directions between Main Street and Broadway Road, police said.
The crash happened around 1 p.m. and forced the road to close for several hours. The road had reopened by 4:30 p.m., Mesa police said in a tweet.
