Leading up the Thursday’s game against the Miami Heat, Celtics point guard Terry Rozier had circled Jan. 10 on his calendar.
The date was more than just the second leg of a back-to-back. It was an opportunity for Rozier to swap jerseys with his childhood idol, Dwyane Wade, who has announced this year will be his last before retirement.
“I just never thought I’d see this day, witnessing his one last dance and actually playing against him and stuff like that,” Rozier told reporters after the game. “It was mandatory I got his jersey. I wouldn’t let nobody else get it.”
Sure enough, the pair found each other on the court after Boston’s 115-99 loss. Other duos to swap jerseys included former Florida Gators Al Horford and Udonis Haslem as well as former Duke Blue Devils Kyrie Irving and Justise Winslow.
As for what Rozier intends to do with his new memento?
His plans are quite simple: “Don’t let it go.”
