SPAIN ran out 4-1 winners away at Wales tonight – but which men were most impressive for La Roja?
“Spain had the chance to warmup for their UEFA Nations League meeting with England on Monday by facing Ryan Giggs’ Wales side”
Luis Enrique’s men had the chance to warmup for their UEFA Nations League meeting with England on Monday by facing Ryan Giggs’ side in a friendly match at the Cardiff City stadium this evening.
And they will be full of confidence for that showdown with the Three Lions now, after handing the Dragons a four-goal drubbing in what proved a comfortable night’s work.
They found themselves three goals to the good inside the first half-hour.
Paco Alcacer, excellent tonight, gave them liftoff in the eighth minute when he curled home brilliantly from inside the box.
That was before Real Madrid centre-back Sergio Ramos made it 2-0 by heading past Wayne Hennessey and into the bottom corner.
Alcacer then added his second and Spain’s third when he capitalised on some lazy Wales defending, which saw three Dragons men challenge for the same ball, to smash home emphatically from 12 yards out.
The home side put up more of a fight in the second half after both teams made a number of changes.
But 15 minutes from time, substitute Marc Bartra sealed the rout when he headed in from Suso’s corner to make it 4-0.
Sam Vokes then found the back of the net with a late consolation for Wales in the 89th minute.
For the majority of the evening, Spain were their usual, slick selves and enjoyed 71% possession of the ball.
It was another poor showing for Alvaro Morata, nevertheless, who struggled in front of goal.
Enrique and co will now look ahead to their clash with England at the Benito Villamarin on Monday night.
