Senior Fiji military figure urges caution from politicians

A top ranking officer in the Fiji military has candidates on the campaign trail to be cautious ahead of next month’s polls.

FBC news reported Brigadier-General Jone Kalouniwai advising political parties to refrain from involving the military in their campaigning.

He told the broadcaster the Republic of Fiji Military Forces would maintain its core responsibility of upholding the law and supporting whatever government came into power.

There needed to be maturity in the way political parties discussed issues concerning the nation, Mr Kalouniwai said.
