PORTUGAL go away to Poland in the UEFA Nations League tonight, but there will be no Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Portugal drew 1-1 with Croatia last month before edging past Italy 1-0 in their opening Nations League outing”
Fernando Santos will have to cope without his star man, who has been left out of his squad once again.
Ronaldo, 33, was not named in Santos’ previous squad, either.
The Juventus superstar got on the scoresheet in a win over Udinese on Saturday, but he is also at the centre of a rape allegation that has led to a nine-year-old case being reopened.
Portugal drew 1-1 with Croatia last month before edging past Italy 1-0 in their opening Nations League outing.
And this evening they look to make it two wins from two in the competition against Poland.
As well as Ronaldo, Santos will also be without Goncalo Guedes, who has withdrawn from the squad with a thigh injury sustained playing for Valencia over the weekend.
Few changes are expected from the team that beat Italy last month, with Rui Patricio set to start in goal.
A back four of Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias, Pepe and Mario Rui should sit in front of him.
In midfield, Santos is likely to give starts to Pizzi, Ruben Neves and William Carvalho.
Bernardo Silva is expected to get the nod on the right flank, while Bruma should start on the opposite side.
Andre Silva, who has played well for La Liga leaders Sevilla so far in 2018/19, is likely to spearhead the Portugal frontline.
That clash gets underway at 7:45pm tonight.
