People confess their biggest new year’s resolution fails

There’s nothing more exciting than creating a list of shiny new resolutions for the coming year which guarantee a better you.

And while these are easy to set, especially following an indulgent Christmas, sticking to any commitment is always hard.

It’s a week into 2019, and many who’ve pledged to eat better, drink less or overhaul their life in other healthy ways have taken to social media to share photos along with explanations of how reality didn’t quite match their expectation.

In a bid to make you feel a little better if you’re struggling, or if you’ve abandoned your intentions altogether, Femail reveals some of the most hilarious and most dismal #resolutionfails.

Overhauling a diet tends to be the number one resolution people around the world make every December 31.

However, staying the course is often far harder, with many only lasting a matter of days before bowing out.

One woman shared a photo of herself to Instagram using the hashtag which she’d captioned ‘The day after NYE’.

In her post she explained every year she made the same resolution, namely to eat healthily and go to the gym.

‘Every year I made this resolution, but I fail every time.’

Another shared a photo of their ‘healthy meal’ with a caption which read: ‘I’m calling it – #newyearsresolution to eat less takeout isn’t going to last much longer!

‘Was tonight’s dinner tasty? Yes… but now I’ve got dishes, bowls, pans, knives, cutting boards, and a whole bunch of counter space to clean up!’ They wrote.

‘And this is AFTER I had to do all the cooking!! I could just have a pizza box to throw away and be done with it!’

One person shared a photo of cocktails to their Instagram page four days after New Year’s Eve with a caption that read: ‘Expectation vs Reality’.

‘Expectation to lose 2lbs. Reality gained 5lbs.’

Drinking less is a resolution which also features highly on many people’s resolution lists.

The problem is this decision is tough to stick to, even tougher if it’s one made on the spur of the moment as one person who shared a photo to Instagram of a glass of wine and beer revealed.

‘Hum, day one of “new me” hasn’t gone to plan,’ their dismal admittance said.

Another who took to Twitter December 30, revealed how their resolution to be ‘healthy’ lasted just one day.

‘Me 01/01 while sipping on my 3rd glass of wine: I’d like a large pizza, extra cheese, gluten and all of the salami you have!’

Other resolutions made by those wanting to overhaul their lifestyle included quitting coffee, cutting back on shopping and exercising.

The hashtag uncovered a number of fails on all these fronts including the social media user shared a photo of a stationary exercise bike to Instagram along with the caption: ‘Day 5 – Saturday: abandoning resolutions.’

‘I said I wasn’t going to buy coffee before work in the new year…. zero days since I kept that,’ wrote one person alongside a photo of a takeaway coffee.

Another explained how their resolution was to spend less in the coming year. Their tweet read: ‘Five days into January and I’ve spent 10% of my monthly salary on clothes.

‘New year, stupid me.’

The resolve to make more money tends to be something, along with diet and exercise, that tops many people’s resolution lists.

One person shared a photo to Instagram under the hashtag which revealed the interior of a casino along with the caption: ‘New Year’s resolution to make more money’.

It’s not entirely clear if their resolution was to quit gambling or to get so good at it they were rolling in dough.

Either way, this intention went by the wayside January 5.
