PAUL Gascoigne has rubbished cruel claims he was “drunk” on Soccer AM after being forced to leave the Sky One show early due to feeling unwell.
The England legend appeared drowsy as he chatted to the hosts live on the Saturday morning favourite shown on Sky One.
Gazza had to to cut short his appearance after around 45 minutes as he was left feeling unwell.
Soccer AM host Fenners let viewers known the former Tottenham midfielder had unfortunately had to leave the studio.
He took to Twitter to ease fan fears – rubbishing suggestions he had been drinking, and confirming sleeping tablets had made him ill.
His management said the footie legend had taken them to try and get a good night’s sleep before the show.
Gazza tweeted: “Ha – just read some of the tweets.
“Some say I am looking well, others say its the best they’ve seen me and others are saying I was drunk.
“It’s every time I’m doing well – thats ok.
“I have been taking sleeping tablets to try and kip – thats all.”
“I have been taking sleeping tablets to try and kip – thats all”
Viewers noticed Gazza did not seem to be himself as he sat on the sofa alongside Fenners, Lloyd Griffith and Jimmy Bullard.
One said “what is up with Gazza today?” and another added “quite uncomfortable watching Gazza”.
Others remarked “Gazza on Soccer AM looks well – but is speaking really slowly” and “can anyone understand a word Gazza says?”.
And another viewer said “looking fit Gazza, really healthy” and “ keep it up Gazza, f*** the haters”.
Gazza this week announced he was newly single after splitting from art gallery owner Sara Lovett, who was credited as helping him fight his drink and drug addiction.
He has gone through a tough year after his nephew died from an overdose last year and the death of his dad in February.
Tweeting a picture of himself with a cigar in his mouth, he wrote: “Single and find me a girlfriend please.”
The 51-year-old Geordie and Lovett had revealed their relationship was in “early days, but we are having lots of fun”.
It is believed the pair met when Gazza did a meet and greet, while Sara was hosting a pop up gallery.
The footie ace was pictured leaving her house, 12 miles away from his new Leicestershire home.
Confirming thier romance, she said: “I was never a fan during his football days but I am now. He’s very handsome and really fit and tanned.
“He’s Paul to me and just a nice, funny guy who’s had a tough time but is coping better than his fans are led to believe.”
