A BLOOD-curdling scream echoes through the creepy darkness.
And the flicker of a torchlight reveals blood splattered in all four corners of the room.
There’s nowhere to escape and footsteps are getting closer. Will you be lucky enough to find your way out?
Fear not, this isn’t an actual murder scene, it’s a House Of Horror experience nestled deep in the Essex woods, designed to be the ultimate Halloween experience for movie fans seeking some fear and excitement.
Based on some of the most chilling horror films ever made, the scare-fest even includes a waiver form to enter its most gruesome area – Room 13.

But to get there, you have to escape through a petrifying ordeal of 12 other horror scenes first.
And with actors, gallons of fake blood, pitch-black darkness and screaming aplenty, this immersive 4D experience is definitely not for the faint-hearted.
So we sent thrill-seeking Daily Star girl Ellie Foster, 23, straight into the gory action to see what it was about.
She reveals: “It’s pitch black. We’ve walked deep into the woods and into an old wooden house where I’m immediately separated from my friends.
“A man jumps out and screams and swears in my face”
“A man jumps out and screams and swears in my face.
“Within minutes I’m spattered in blood and forced to crawl on my hands and knees to escape.
“Usually I love horror films – Paranormal Activity and Saw are some of my favourites – but this is like being in your worst nightmare.
“And I’ve still 11 more rooms to get through. That’s if you don’t count Room 13. I’m not sure I’m tough enough for that!”
Participants like Ellie have their phones and personal belongings taken off them on arrival and they are warned their clothes may get soaked in blood.
And the decaying wooden house in the forest is only the start of the pure torture that awaits.
It’s part of a new wave of Halloween experiences popping up around the country to give scare-seekers a fright like never before.
Every room at Brentwood’s House Of Horror promises to throw up a chilling array of physical and psychological challenges.
In one you find yourself exorcising a demon as you witness a possessed girl’s head twist 360 degrees.
In Macabre Maze you daren’t take a wrong turn or you’ll meet a sinister fate.
The other areas, including Sci-Fi-Die, Krow Killers and Medical Madness, see you join forces with other brave souls to see if you can team up to plot your escape.
But Room 13 is so intense people are actually warned NOT to enter.
Ellie continues: “I’m still shaking thinking about it. At one point they put a bag over my head, I had to crawl through a tunnel. The only other people I saw coming out of Room 13 were drenched in water and crawling with blood and maggots.
“This is probably the best – and worst – Halloween experience I’ve ever seen. I actually felt part of my own horror movie and genuinely lucky to be alive.
“The relief at breaking free through a dark tunnel to freedom will never leave me.
“I loved it, but next time I think I will stick to fancy dress or hiding behind a cushion in front of a scary film rather than starring in it!”
