Terra Newell has become an Instagram queen since her harrowing real life story was converted into a crime drama, the Netflix show Dirty John.
Terra Newell was catapulted into the spotlight when her family’s horrific story was told in the Netflix series Dirty John.
The dramatised version of events, that has gone down a storm on the streaming site, tells the true story of Debra Newell and her daughters Terra and Jacquelyn, whose name was changed to Veronica for the show.
Debra was lured into a false sense of security by her partner, a charismatic John Meehan, ending up in a spiral of secrets and manipulation, leading the whole family into a deadly set of consequences.
John subsequently began to stalk the girls which ended up fatal after he attacked her daughter Terra.
Fighting back, Terra killed Meehan back in 2016, stabbing him 13 times.
In light of her acting in self defence, she was never prosecuted for the incident.
But who is the real life Terra behind the character played by The Perks of Being a Wallflower actress Julia Garner?
The story has gripped viewers around the world, with even more interest since the release of the accompanying documentary Dirty John, The Dirty Truth.
Since the show, Miss Newell has attracted more than 19,800 followers, becoming somewhat of an Instagram sensation.
She shares every part of her life with her dedicated fans, from her jet-setting experiences around the world to clothing tips, nights out with friends, as well as her love of dogs and zombies.
Living in Orange County, California, the 27-year-old has created a self-titled blog as a safe place to share all about her life.
It is no surprise that after her harrowing experience, the Insta star suffers with post-traumatic stress disorder, which she talks openly about on her site, sharing with others with how to cope.
In a recent post, titled Activities to De-Stress, she opens up about her disorder.
Sharing her most intimate of experiences, she explained: “Ever since the attack, I have had to deal with many problems. A couple of months after the trauma my PTSD had gotten so bad that I really had to find some activities to help calm and settle me.”
Inspiring her fans with what makes a difference, she said: ”These were things I needed to do in addition to my weekly therapy sessions. Some of the activities that I tried were yoga, rock climbing, hiking, massages, warm baths and photography.”
Transforming her ordeal into a positive experience, she encourages her readers to think positively and celebrate the happy moments in life.
Her social media bio reads: “Official Instagram of Terra Newell, only positive vibes please.”
