Myer responds to claims Jennifer Hawkins will ‘retire’

Myer has responded to claims that Jennifer Hawkins will ‘retire’ after nearly 12 years with the retail giant, over an alleged pay dispute.

A spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia on Saturday that the 34-year-old’s contract will terminate ‘at the end of 2018’.

The Sydney Morning Herald’s Private Sydney claimed on Friday that the model will be replaced by The Block’s Elyse Knowles, 25, who will do the same job ‘at a fraction of the price’.

A spokesperson for Myer told Daily Mail Australia exclusively on Saturday: ‘Jennifer Hawkins is under contract as the Face of Myer until the end of 2018.

‘Jennifer has a busy period coming up with Myer to launch the Spring 2018 season and will take part in our “Runway Series” in-store parades starting in Myer Sydney City on Thursday 23 August.

‘Jennifer will also be actively involved in our spring racing carnival campaign and Myer Fashions on the Field hosted across the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

‘We will update media in relation to Jennifer’s contract with Myer in the coming weeks.’

On Friday, Sydney Morning Herald’s Private Sydney claimed that reality star Elyse Knowles, 25, will replace Jennifer ‘at a fraction of the price’.

They went on to allege that Jennifer will officially ‘retire’ from the role in November, and will have to strut her stuff down the catwalk one last time in the Sydney spring-summer launch later this month, with Elyse.

The publication claimed that Jennifer was earning an impressive $1.3 million a year for her Myer gig, while Elyse’s contract is worth just $150,000, which has ‘ruffled Jennifer’s feathers’.

PS reported that Jennifer’s team was ‘infuriated’ last week, with insiders claiming Myer ‘planted’ stories about Elyse and new spokesperson Josh Gibson, before her departure was announced.

The publication claimed her team were unhappy because her departure news ‘wouldn’t be managed to her advantage’.

Jennifer’s reported departure comes as Myer’s management has allegedly endured a ‘very abrupt change of direction’.

‘It’s been really badly handled, and the new management don’t seem to care,’ an insider reportedly said.

Elyse’s career meanwhile, has been going from strength to strength since she won the thirteenth season of The Block last year.

The bubbly blonde has picked up a string of high-profile endorsements this year, including becoming the face of Seafolly and Davidoff’s Cool Water fragrance.

Elyse was announced as an official Myer ambassador in June and previously expressed her excitement at working with Jennifer.

‘Jennifer has been a huge inspiration to me growing up and into this industry and I am thrilled to have the chance to work alongside her with Myer,’ she told The West last week.

Despite being allegedly replaced by a younger model, Jennifer is said to be ‘happy to walk’ away from her Myer gig.

She already has a lot on her plate, balancing contracts with Colgate and Mount Franklin with her own tequila line and fake tan range.

She also develops multi-million dollar properties with her builder husband Jake Wall under their J Group company.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Jennifer and Elyse’s management for comment.

Jennifer became the official face of Myer in early 2007, just three years after being crowned Miss Universe Australia.

Last year, Jennifer told Women’s Health that she wants to have a farm and a family in the next 10 years.

‘I always joke with Jake that I’d love to have a farm,’ Jennifer told the publication.

She added: ‘I’d love to be living near the water and have a family.’
