RABAT, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) — Morocco’s navy coast guards have rescued 196 illegal sub-Saharan African immigrants in the Mediterranean, the Moroccan army said on Wednesday.
The rescued, who were onboard four boats, included women and children, the army said.
The migrants were brought safely to the port of the northern city of Nador, the army said.
Morocco has witnessed a significant hike in illegal immigration attempts in 2018.
According to the Moroccan Interior Ministry, the authorities have foiled over 76,000 illegal immigration attempts between January and November in 2018.
