Mercury seeking to break nine-game losing streak vs. rival Los Angeles Sparks

Outlook: The Mercury (17-14) already have dropped the season series to the Sparks (18-12), losing games in Los Angeles 80-72 on May 27 and 78-75 on Aug. 5. In the latter game, Mercury G Diana Taurasi only played 28 minutes due to foul trouble and was held to 11 points by Sparks’ defensive star Alana Beard. Still, Phoenix hung around and had a shot to force overtime in the closing seconds. LA has won nine consecutive games in the rivalry including three in the 2017 WNBA playoff semifinals. The Mercury’s last win over the Sparks was in August 2016. Phoenix is coming off a 94-74 home win over Indiana on Friday. LA lost its last game, 79-73 at Atlanta … The first 2,500 fans will receive a DeMomma Bonner bobblehead of Mercury All-Star DeWanna Bonner holding her 1-year-old twins … On Friday, the Mercury raised $21,715 for the American Cancer Society during their Rock the Pink Night initiative for breast cancer awareness.
