Man Utd News: Mourinho sack claim, Mata and Herrera EXCLUSIVE, Maguire future

MAN UTD news and gossip – Starsport brings you all the latest from Old Trafford including updates on Juan Mata, Ander Herrera, Jose Mourinho and Harry Maguire.

Jose Mourinho runs the risk of losing his job as Manchester United manager if he continues to upset his players.

That is according to Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer, who believes players have the power over managers.

“When you look at Mourinho when he first came into the Premier League, he was happy, he was cheeky, he was smiley, he was arrogant in a good way,” he said on the BBC One programme.

“Every time you see him now, he’s frowning, he’s angry, he wants to row with everyone.

“We’ve learnt from the past that, if he takes too many players on like he did at Chelsea and Real Madrid, then there’s only one thing that will happen.

“If he upsets too many players because of his way then ultimately he will lose his job because the players, more often than not, win. They’re the ones with the power now, unfortunately.”

Manchester United are ready to address the futures of Spanish midfielders Juan Mata and Ander Herrera, Starsport understands.

Playmaker Mata, 30, and midfielder Herrera, 28, are out of contract at the end of the season.

They are understood to be disappointed that Old Trafford bosses didn’t award them new deals this year.

Instead, United favour exercising 12-month options in their contracts.

There is plenty of Spanish interest in Mata and Herrera.

But they are understood to be happy to remain in Manchester.

Harry Maguire will not be leaving Leicester City this season, according to team-mate Ben Chilwell.

Manchester United were interested in signing Maguire during the summer transfer window but balked at the Foxes’ asking price.

They could try again in January, but Chilwell said: “He is a Leicester player, he wants to play for Leicester. He has made that clear to all of us.

“He is going to be here for the whole season.

“He is going to be good for us. We saw that again tonight, how good a player he is. We are all happy that he has stayed.”
