Man stabbed in Nottingham metropolis centre in entrance of horrified passers-by

A MAN has been stabbed in Nottingham city centre in broad daylight amid a terrifying bloodbath gripping Britain.

Police were scrambled to reports of a knife attack at around 4pm this afternoon as horrified passers-by fled.

A hooded man had reportedly been seen near the city’s Intu shopping centre with a machete in his hand.

He was said to be running after another man through the city centre’s streets before “slashing him” and then running away.

Police have now confirmed the incident and that a man has sustained injuries caused by a knife.

A Nottinghamshire Police spokeswoman said: “We were called to reports of an assault in Burton Street at 4pm today (Friday, March 8).

“A man sustained injuries which are believed to have been caused by a knife. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-altering.

“A 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of affray and drugs offences.

“Our armed officers responded swiftly and, whilst we appreciate this is an unsettling incident, at this stage we do believe the suspect and victim are likely to be known to each other and this was a targeted attack.”

A witness described the scene to Nottinghamshire Live as “pandemonium” as hundreds of workers had started leaving work for home.

“I was leaving work when I saw the two men who were both hooded,” they told the newspaper. “One of them had a big knife – it was a machete.

“We went back into the office and the security guard called the police. It was pandemonium. It’s 4pm on Friday outside a call centre so you can imagine how many people were in the area – I would say there were more than 100.

“People were running around and screaming. The two men ran off towards the Victoria Centre and I had to run to catch my train home.”

Another witness said: “Two men ran up the street together. There was clearly a dispute and then one of them took out a huge knife.

“He actually slashed the other one in the arm. It all happened very quickly and it was shocking as it was in broad daylight. It was very scary. The police came but the men had disappeared I think.”

The incident comes amid a horrifying spate of stabbings gripping Britain – with London having suffered more than 20 murders this year alone.
