Liverpool news: Jamie Carragher makes Xherdan Shaqiri and Mo Salah prediction

LIVERPOOL will not start with Xherdan Shaqiri ahead of Mo Salah, according to Jamie Carragher.

The Reds legend believes the Switzerland international will be used as backup to the Egypt superstar.

Shaqiri impressed for his country tonight in a 1-0 losing effort to England.

But Carragher believes the winger can have an important role to play at Anfield.

“He will (make an impact),” Carragher said of Shaqiri Sky Sports.

“I don’t think he will replace him as a starter but to bring him off and bring him on”

Liverpool hero Jamie Carragher

“He made an impact at Leicester when he came on.

“If Salah comes off, is he ever going to replace him? I don’t think he will replace him as a starter but to bring him off and bring him on.

“He did make a difference when he came on (against Leicester), he may play more centrally for Switzerland, maybe something going forward for Liverpool also.”

Carragher thinks Shaqiri will prove to be a very good signing for the Reds.

“I think when Liverpool signed him, certainly the price tag, you look at his age as well, he’s been around a long time at big clubs, great experience,” he added.

“I think it’s a brilliant buy for Liverpool.

“It’s one of those buys where even if it doesn’t work out, there’s no way they’re not going to get their money back. So I think it works for everyone really.

“He will want to make an impression tonight, he’s playing in this country as well.

“He’ll want to put himself in the limelight because of the huge games coming up for Liverpool in the next month and he will want to be a part of it.”

Liverpool return to Premier League action on Saturday as they take on Tottenham at 12.30pm.
