Labor deputy defends Lisa Singh snub

Deputy Labor Leader Tanya Plibersek has defended the dumping of Tasmanian senator Lisa Singh to the bottom of the party’s election ticket.

The unaligned senator has been relegated to the challenging spot below three left and right factional picks, despite attracting 20,000 primary votes at the last election.

Senator Singh copped a similar snub at the 2016 federal poll, but still won after attracting a large number of personal votes.

Ms Plibersek said the Tasmanian had been a fantastic contributor, but argued Labor was a party of collective decision-making.

“She has been a great senator, she was a very good minister in the Tasmanian state government before that, and she will go on to have a terrific career whatever she does,” she told ABC radio on Wednesday.
