Israeli police shoot injured suspected Palestinian female stabber

JERUSALEM, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) — Israeli police said on Tuesday that a Palestinian woman was shot and injured after she attempted to stab Border Police officers with scissors in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

The incident took place near a gas station outside the settlements of Alon and Kfar Adumim, northeast of Jerusalem.

Police Spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said the suspect hid in a restaurant before the attack and refused to leave the site. Paramilitary Border Police units were called in the area and searched for her.

Then she walked outside the restaurant and spotted the police officers approaching her, pulling out scissors and attempting to stab them, said Rosenfeld.

The forces responded with live fire, injuring her. She was taken to receive medical care with moderate injuries, the police said in a separate statement.

No injuries were reported to the Israeli forces.

The police identified the suspect as a 37-year-old woman from the village of Yatah, south of Hebron.

On Monday, Israeli forces shot and injured a Palestinian man in an alleged stabbing attempt in the settlement of Kiryat Arba, east of Hebron city.

The incidents come amidst tensions between Israel and the Palestinians in the wake of a diplomatic freeze in the peace process and daily protests in the Gaza Strip against the Israeli blockade, imposed on Gaza since 2007.
