VALENTINO ROSSI has received a heartwarming message from Lewis Hamilton this weekend.
Rossi once again proved he has the pace to compete on Sundays in the MotoGP season opener.
The Yamaha rider started the race on the fifth row, but fought his way through to fifth and almost bagged himself an unlikely podium.
The Doctor had struggled for one lap pace since toping the initial practice session in Qatar.
He then failed to make it into Q2 on Saturday, but his race craft ensured it didn’t make much different.
The SRT Yamaha team have welcomed F1 world champion Hamilton into the garage this weekend.
And the Mercedes driver took to Instagram to heap praise on Rossi following their meeting in Qatar.
He said: “Always an honour to get time with this legend.
“Over 20 years in the world championship, I’m constantly inspired by this man and his humble attitude to his work, his team and his passion.
“His dedication is second to none. The #goat took time for me today before his race to explain the intricacies of riding.
“As a bike lover I’m in awe and can’t wait to hit the track with him some day. #goat #legend #hardwork #dedication”.
And fans were loving the meeting of two racing superstars.
“My two favourite sportsmen,” said one.
“champ meets champ,” added another.
“For me, two legends in this pic!!,” said a third.
Rossi and Yamaha will now plan ahead towards the second race of the season in Argentina.
Meanwhile Hamilton is preparing for the defence of his F1 crown when the season begins in Melbourne next weekend.
