ACCRA, March 11 (Xinhua) — Dalian Yifang’s Emmanuel Boateng has earned call up into Ghana’s senior national soccer team, the Black Stars, for their final Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Kenya in Accra on March 23.
Boateng joined Chinese Super League Dalian Yifang last month on a three-year contract from La Liga side Levante UD.
Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has invited some debutants in his 24-man squad as he seeks to assess new talents ahead of the 2019 AFCON, with Ghana already qualified for the tournament to be hosted in Egypt.
The squad, which includes three player from CAF Confederation Cup campaigners Asante Kotoko, begins camping on March 18, ahead of the qualifier which will determine which side tops Group F.
The Black Stars will be seeking to revenge a 1-0 defeat they suffered to Kenya at the Moi International Sports Centre in the first leg of the AFCON qualification.
The 2019 AFCON, with its new 24-team format, will be held from June 15-July 13.
