A store full of crayons and colorful creativity for kids is coming to Chandler next summer.
Crayon maker Crayola announced this week that it plans to open a 20,000-square-foot Crayola Experience at Chandler Fashion Center, near Kona Grill on the mall’s west side. Construction will begin immediately, to the company said.
What is the Crayola Experience?
The project will include a 4,000-square-foot retail store, which the company said will feature the world’s largest selection of Crayola products.
The remaining 16,000 square feet will feature 19 hands-on activities. Visitors will be able to name and wrap their own personalized Crayola crayon, star in their own coloring page, make 4-D figures and create melted-wax spin art.
“Crayola Experience is more than just an attraction — it’s a dynamic and colorful place where families can come together to create, play and make memories that will last a lifetime,” said Victoria Lozano, senior vice president of attractions and retail.
Crayola Experience will also host private and group events and birthday parties.
General admission tickets will cost $14.99. The cost of an annual pass was not immediately available.
Family-focused Chandler a perfect fit
Crayola Experience is expected to hire more than 100 full- and part-time employees, the company said.
Crayola declined to disclose the project’s estimated cost, but said the company is making a multimillion-dollar investment.
This is the fifth Crayola Experience. The other locations include Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota; Orlando; Plano, Texas; and Easton, Pennsylvania, where Crayola has been based since 1903.
The company said it chose Chandler because it is a family-focused community.
“When looking for our next adventure, Arizona made perfect sense,” the company said. “Where there are kids and families, we know Crayola Experience will flourish. And we know there are tons of kids and families here in Chandler and the surrounding area. It was a perfect fit.”
