CORONATION Street viewers thought they were seeing things.
Coronation Street viewers were at a loss during Wednesday night’s episodes of the ITV soap.
Viewers tuned in to see what was going to happen to Carla Connor (Alison King) after she woke up in hospital.
However, it was Carla’s consultant that caught the eye of longtime fans instead.
It turns out the actress playing the doctor, Olwen May, has previously appeared alongside Carla in a different role.
Olwen previously played DC Joyce Malone, who investigated the rape allegations made against Frank Foster back in 2011.
Fans rushed to social media to share their confusion over the choice to use the same actress.
“When the detective who was in charge of Carla’s rape case also turns out to be her consultant,” tweeted an eagle-eyed viewer.
“It’s the same woman right? I’m not going crazy,” questioned a second fan.
While a third added: “No wonder Carla is paranoid!”
Bizarrely, Olwen has actually played four different roles on the ITV soap.
In 1990 she played Christine woods, who was interviewed by Ken Barlow.
She then returned in 1991 to play DC Chapman, who investigated the theft of car radios on the cobbles.
Corrie airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV1
