Cigarettes worth over €4.3m seized at Dublin Port – Ireland

Revenue seized 7.9 million cigarettes at Dublin Port yesterday as part of an intelligence led operation.

With a retail value of over €4.3 million, the smuggled cigarettes were found on a vessel coming from Rotterdam in The Netherlands.

They were found in a shipping container that was said to contain ‘welding equipment’ and ‘workshop machinery’, Revenue have confirmed.

According to Revenue, the seized cigarettes were ‘cheap whites’ branded ‘Business Royals’ and ‘Gold Classic’, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €3.4 million.

Investigations into the seizure are ongoing.

The latest haul is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal cigarettes and tobacco in the shadow economy.
