BOXER Chris Eubank Jr appeared to compliment Jack Grealish’s attacker in a tweet branded “strange” and “ridiculous” by his followers.
The IBO super-middleweight champion last night posted a tweet about the attack on Grealish during Aston Villa’s dramatic 1-0 win over Birmingham City.
In a tweet shared with his 359,000 followers, Eubank, 29, joined social media users in condemning pitch invader Paul Mitchell for hitting Grealish from behind on the pitch.
Mitchell, 27, was arrested after the shocking attack was captured on live TV during the Championship clash on Sunday afternoon.
Ex-pub manager Mitchell struck 23-year-old Grealish after sprinting onto the pitch in the 10th minute of the derby match at St Andrews stadium.
He pleaded guilty to assault and encroachment onto the pitch when he appeared at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court and is due to be sentenced today.
Eubank took to Twitter to comment on the incident last night, posting a tweet in which he seemingly expresses admiration for his “technique”.
The fighter wrote: “Despicable what happened today at the Villa game, guy should be put in jail. Respect to Grealish for getting back on his feet & scoring the winning goal. Although extremely dumb & cowardly… that hooligan’s technique wasn’t bad to be fair.”
Many of Eubank’s followers were not impressed with Eubank’s remarks, suggesting they were ill-judged.
