ASU hockey improves to 8-3 with home win over Michigan State

Arizona State hockey scored three consecutive goals in the late second and third periods Friday night for a 5-4 win over Michigan State.

The Spartans (4-3) overcame a 2-0 first-period deficit with three straight goals before Filips Buncis scored his first goal of the season for ASU at 17:04 in the second period.

Jordan Sandhu put ASU back in front with a goal at 9:07 in the third period at Oceanside Ice Arena. Brett Gruber added what proved to be the game-winning goal for a 5-3 lead at 12:28. Michigan State got back within a goal at 14:06 but could not get another shot past ASU goalie Joey Daccord.

The Sun Devils improve to 8-3 with their sixth win in the last seven games. Game 2 vs. the Spartans is at 7:05 p.m. Saturday.
