ARSENAL midfielder Granit Xhaka looked world class in Switzerland’s friendly defeat to England, says Sky Sports pundit Alex Scott.
Xhaka has endured a tough couple of seasons in England since his £35m move from Borussia Monchengladbach to Arsenal in 2016.
But former Arsenal Women’s right-back Scott believes the 25-year-old looked like a ‘world beater’ at the King Power Stadium tonight.
The Sky Sports pundit believes England allowed Xhaka far too much time on the ball to pick out passes.
England ended a run of three defeats with a 1-0 win over Switzerland thanks to Marcus Rashford’s second-half strike.
“It looked like he was a world beater out there”
“When you look at the Switzerland midfield, I know the jury’s always been out with Granit Xhaka and opinions on him, he’s got so much time on the ball,” she said.
“He’s picking passes out and it looked like he was a world beater out there.
“We’re not putting pressure on them and closing them down.
“Switzerland, we know they had a good run in the World Cup, but this is an England side.
“Yes there’s new players out there, but you need to put down a marker.
“I think the only one that’s really shone [in the first half] is Danny Rose. I suppose it’s not good enough.
“That goes to some people’s point and the fans saying about ‘meaningless friendlies’.
“These players need to give the fans something to cheer about.”
Xhaka and Arsenal will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to St James’ Park to take on winless Newcastle.
