Fortnite season Eight patch provides pirate cannons and new areas to the map

Fortnite’s newest season is here and with it a massive patch. While this patch includes plenty of gameplay changes, the most noticeable additions have come to Fortnite’s map.

Epic is changing up the environment a bit. Change has come to Wailing Woods, which has burned to the ground and replaced by a giant volcano — the one from all the teasers — and a dense jungle. Also new to the map are Sunny Steps, an hidden series of steppe-like pyramids in the jungle, and the Lazy Lagoon, a secret pirate cove that now occupies most of the map’s northern edge.

This new season is still bringing plenty of changes to the gameplay itself. The Stormwing planes were the big new mobility addition last season. Epic has vaulted them for season 8. Replacing planes are hot air vents which shoot players into the sky if they stand on them for long enough.

Also coming to the game as new “vehicles” are pirate cannons. Just like shopping carts — which have also been removed — players can push the cannons around the map. Once they reach a suitable destination they can either fire cannon balls that deal damage to enemy players and structures from long distances or you can climb in and shoot yourself across the map.
