Guidelines

Brinkwire has very strict rules on the Content and Style for press releases submitted to the site. Press releases which cannot make every single criteria will not be approved for publishing.

A good way to gauge what we consider a quality press release is to view a number of the releases we have recently approved on the site.

Submission Guidelines

Headline:

  • Headlines much larger than 90 characters (counting spaces) are likely to be too long.

Body:

  • This text should mention the brand and product/service name early on the first paragraph; ideally in the first sentence.
  • Will contain no more than 5 links.
  • Will not exceed 1 link for every 100 words.
  • Will not contain a link within the first paragraph.
  • Will have at least 400 words but no more than 700. A good size is about 500 to 600.

Content:

  • Content must not be an advertorial/ must not be consumer targeted.
  • Should be written in the press release style (see live releases on Brinkwire for examples).
  • The release must be factual and newsworthy; special offers are rarely newsworthy nor are hints or observations.
  • Any content which looks more like advertising than news will be rejected.
  • Quotes should take up less than 1/3rd of the body content.
  • Content will avoid using any hyperbole or exclamation marks – both suggest the content is in the wrong style and not a factual news release.
  • Should be written in the third person (use ‘he/she’, ‘they’ and ‘it’ rather than ‘I’ or ‘you’, ‘we’ and ‘us’).
  • Grammar and spelling should be correct.
  • Acronyms should be avoided or, at least, spelt out fully in the first instance – eg, Return on Investment (ROI).
  • Should not contain non-latin characters, tables, lists or graphics outside the graphic and video functionality provided by Brinkwire.

Tags:

  • Tags should not include more than one hyphen.
  • One tag should describe the vertical or industry to which the release relates.
  • One tag should be appropriate to the brand, company or service the announcement is about.

Industry Conventions:

  • There should be an “About” boiler plate for each PR. This should be a short and factual summary about the companies involved.
  • Upper case sections are not used in press releases. Use correct grammar but do not shout.
  • A calendar of events is not a press release but news that a company is attending an event can be written up correctly and successfully published as a press release.

Payment Guidelines:

  • Brinkwire accepts payment by PayPal. It’s a name we can all trust.
  • A single submission costs £350.00.
  • A subscription costs £1000.00 per month.
  • If a single release fails to meet our publication criteria it can be refunded for 80% of its total cost. Subscriptions are not refundable.
