Radisson Blu Hotel, Malmo receives Entrepreneurial Prize for Diversity

Radisson Blu Hotel, Malmo has won the Malmo City Entrepreneurial Prize for Diversity, awarded at the Malmo Business Gala and presented in front of 1500 important guests at Malmo Opera.

The Malmo Business Gala is an annual event that features an awards ceremony for seven different business catagories. The 2012 event was held in front of sold-out crowd. This is the second consecutive year that the Radisson Blu hotel in Malmo was nominated, but the first time that it took the prize.

Malmo is a very internartional city, with people from 164 different nations working and living there. Every fourth resident of Malmo was born outwith Swedens borders. With this award, the City of Malmo recognises and rewards companies that take advantage of the opportunities offered to Malmo's ethnic diversity.

Radisson Blu's Managing Director, John F. Monhardt, was proud, but very humble when he accepted the award. He said:

"Actually I have not done anything particularly spectacular. For me it is obvious that there are many different ways to work with diversity"

The jury disussed their motivation, saying: "When you have a product that sells almost anywhere in the world, there are many different perspectives to look at. Not least because when you start up an organisation in Malmo, nations from all over the world are represented here. For this year's winner, there is room for diversity!"

Other finalists in the category were IKEA and Örestads bevakning.

In December 2011, the CEO of Radisson Blu Hotels won another award for its work for diversity in Malmo. John F. Monthardt has been praised for initiatiing a collaboration between the hotel industry and the city of Malmö employment service 'Sweden for Immigrants' and 'The Hotel & Restaurant school' by starting up the project 'Talent Hunt'. The project gives newcomers the opportunity to gain Swedish work experience whilst trying to gain employment in the Malmo accommodation industry. The Radisson Blu Hotel Malmo participated in the project which lead to eight of the nineteen participants securing employment after six months.

The prize money will be used to purchase ten laptops to be donated to Rosengård School, a school where most of the students come from abroad.

Radisson Blu Hotels & Resorts announces the Radisson Blu Hotel Conakry, Guinea

Radisson Blu Hotels & Resorts, part of the Rezidor Hotel Group, has announced its plans to open the Radisson Blu Hotel, Conakry in Guinea. The property, which will feature 249 rooms, is scheduled to open in 2014.

Guinea is rich in minerals and other natural resources. Its mining sector and refinery industry are the driving forces behind the Western African country's economic growth, and the port and capital city of Conakry is the country’s trade hub and the first stop for most international tourists visiting the country.

"We are proud to arrive in the Republic of Guinea, the 68th country where Rezidor is present," said Kurt Ritter, president & CEO of Rezidor.

"Growth in the emerging markets of Africa has been a major focus for Rezidor in recent years. The signing of this property is in line with our asset smart strategy to develop Radisson Blu hotels in leading African capital cities. The Radisson Blu Hotel, Conakry will be situated next to the US embassy in an up-market business and residential precinct of Conakry that attracts many international companies and government administration offices. The new football stadium, which will host the African Cup of Nations in 2014, will be located 2 kilometres from the site. Part of a mixed use development, the property sits on a cliff with views of the Atlantic Ocean.

In addition to 249 rooms with signature services, such as free high speed internet access, the Radisson Blu Hotel, Conakry will feature several restaurants and bars, including an outdoor terrace and rooftop F&B outlet. The hotel will also offer about 1,580m sq. of conference and meeting facilities, an outdoor swimming pool and spa. The Radisson Blu Hotel in Berlin to provide Apple AirPlay in the DomLounge

The Radisson Blu Hotel in Berlin has announced it is to offer its business guests a new dimension of conference equipment.

The first class hotel in Berlin, located right next to the magnificent Cathedral, is now offering business guests using the hotels' DomLounge the opportunity to hold conferences that benefit from innovative technology and interactive communication, as well as a breathtaking view.

"Nikolai 1", the largest conference room in the DomLounge, which offers a stunning view of the Berlin skyline, was completely redesigned within a period of four weeks and is now equipped with two movable screens, two projectors, seven 52" LCD monitors and state-of-the art Apple AirPlay technology. This means that conference guests of the hotel in Berlin City can transfer photos, videos with sound, web pages, presentations, tables, documents and content from any application directly and wirelessly from their iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad to the digital whiteboard in the conference room. The technology is extremely user-friendly with most functions simply requiring the touch of a button and the quality is exceptional.

"Interactive communication of this kind is new on the Berlin market and represents a unique service for our international clientele. Welcome to the future," commented Ralph Goetzmann, the hotel's General Manager.

Via the Berlin onsite iPad, conference participants can control the room's technical facilities themselves, including light, sound and room darkening. Apple AirPlay also broadcasts the current presentation wirelessly on the two standalone screens.

"The new technology makes planning more flexible: time for laying cables can be dispensed with, meaning we can change the layout more quickly to accommodate different seating plans. Then we can focus more directly on meeting our guests' requirements", explained Ralph Goetzmann.

Before it was remodelled, "Nikolai 1" was able to accommodate 128 people in a classroom seating formation and 200 using theatre style seating. It can now hold 200 or 400 guests respectively. This is possible, thanks not only to the innovative wireless presentation facilities, but also to the fact that screen projection is supported by the room's seven additional 52" LCD monitors, which can be installed on the pillars if required. The monitors can be rotated in any direction, allowing every Berlin conference participant to enjoy a clear view of the presentation.

The conference facilities at the DomLounge of the Radisson Blu Hotel are among the most outstanding on offer in Berlin. The Radisson Blu Birmingham turns six in style

The Radisson Blu Hotel, Birmingham, a landmark hotel in the heart of the city centre, has celebrated its sixth anniversary in style, with over 100 guests enjoying an Italian themed party at the hotel.

Many of Birmingham's finest, including the Lord Mayor Cllr Anita Ward, were on hand to share in the celebrations of one of the city's premier hotels.

In tribute to the popular movie 'The Italian Job', guests were greeted on arrival by blue, red and white Mini’s at the hotel’s entrance. Super stylish Lambretta and Vespa scooters were loaned to the hotel to further celebrate and embrace all things Italian. Inside the party, guests entertained themselves on Formula One stimulators, testing their mettle behind the wheels of a Ferrari in a Top Gear-style "Filini challenge". Meanwhile, Amore Voce, the Italian pop-opera singers with a name that translates as "love voice", provided the evening's entertainment with some striking sounds.

The Italian flavour continued through the food and beverages on offer for guests, with Jonathan Parnell, Head Chef of 'Filini', the hotel's authentic Italian restaurant in Birmingham, serving up delicious treats including homemade pizza, mini risottos and selections of Italian breads and olives.

Radisson Blu Edinburgh crowned Gram Hotel Sustainable Champion of the Year

Radisson Blu Edinburgh has been crowned Gram Hotel Sustainable Champion of the Year by Gram UK, the award-winning manufacturer of energy efficient commercial refrigeration. The prize is awarded to the most environmentally conscious hotel in the UK.

To make the important decision, Gram appointed an independent judging panel, formed of representatives from Caterer & Hotelkeeper Magazine, the Considerate Hoteliers Association and the Institute of Hospitality, who were all impressed with the high standard of entries. The panel chose Radisson Blu Edinburgh as overall winner because of the focus the team at the hotel in Edinburgh city centre has placed, on putting sustainability at the top of their agenda for the hotel. The hotel walks away from the competition with a Gram refrigerator from the Energy Technology List.

Lisa Jenkins, products and suppliers editor at Caterer & Hotelkeeper magazine, commented: "This hotel had an obvious passion for the environment with many systems in place. I particularly liked the fact that they were reducing the use of chemicals. The Rezidor Hotel Group, one of the fastest growing hotel companies worldwide, has announced its debut in Qatar with the Radisson Blu Hotel, Doha in Qatar. The existing Ramada Plaza Doha, featuring 583 guest rooms will be converted to a Radisson Blu in Q3 2012. Radisson Blu is Rezidor's core brand in the upper upscale market segment, offering contemporary architecture and design, unique signature service concepts and the engaging service philosophy of "Yes I Can!".

"We are delighted to add this landmark hotel to our constantly growing Middle East portfolio where we currently have 29 Radisson Blu hotels in operation and under development. Park Inn by Radisson York announces £1m guest rooms renovation plans

The Park Inn by Radisson York has announced plans for a £1m investment, with work due to start shortly on the refurbishment of all 74 bedrooms in the hotel's Garden Court.

The work, which commenced on the 21st November will take approximately four months to complete and will see the 74 guestrooms get a fresh and stylish new look. The full refurbishment of each bedroom includes new decor, furniture and soft furnishings in both the bedroom and bathroom.

Adrian Pickard, District Director Park Inn by Radisson UK said: "We are delighted to announce the next chapter of our substantial investment plans for the hotel. Upon completion of this work, our entire room stock will have been upgraded and will provide our guests with the full Park Inn by Radisson experience - offering a fresh and reliable place to stay at a good value for money rate."

Radisson Blu Hotel and Spa, Limerick supports Living in a Window

Radisson Blu Hotel and Spa, Limerick has pledged its support for "Living in a Window", an annual project run by Limerick's Live 95FM which raises funds for two worthwhile Limerick children's charities: CARI (Children at Risk in Ireland) and The Children's Ark Unit at the Midwestern Regional Hospital, Dooradoyle.

The staff at the Limerick hotel completed a sponsored treadmill challenge in the lobby area as part of the "Living in a Window" campaign and their own Responsible Business Programme.

During this time, the staff, as well as some loyal leisure centre members and guests, took 30 minute slots throughout the day and completed a workout to help these very worthy charities. The hotel raised over €800, helping to contribute greatly to the success of this now annual event.

The total raised by Live 95FM's "Living in a Window" for Limerick Kidz has breached the €50,000 mark. Donations continued to pour in as the people of Limerick responded to the call to support the Children's Ark and CARI Limerick.

Live 95FM's JP Dillon spent 95 hours living in the window of Brown Thomas while members of the public organised their own fundraising events to contribute to the overall total.

Rezidor, a rapidly-expanding worldwide hotel company, has announced a partnership with World Clean Up 2012, a global campaign which aims to clean up illegal stray garbage in 100 countries and raise people's environmental awareness worldwide. Rezidor, a rapidly expanding global hotel company, has announced plans for a new hotel, the Radisson Blu Hotel, Belgrade. The property, which features 236 rooms, is already under construction and will welcome the first guests in Q4 2013. It is Rezidor's first hotel in Serbia and the hotel group is now present in 64 countries across Europe, Middle East and Africa.

"I've participated in concerts in Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Morocco and elsewhere. In Kuwait I participated in a musical concert in the 360 Mall, which was a tremendous success. I received great feedback from the public even though I was afraid that people here would not like operatic music. For the charity concert I will sing two or more international operatic pieces," he told one of the local newspapers.

Abdulrahman was also a guest of honor at the press conference for the Hope Foundation launch, chaired by Dr Sabriya Al-Saleh. Also in attendance were figures from Arabic and English media, Hope Foundation committee members and Abdulrahman's fellow performers.

"The evening will also include some operatic and Arabic songs presented by Abdulrahman Al-Mahmeed and other local and international musicians will present a beautiful repertoire of music. It will also include solo performances, including on the piano," noted Dr Al-Saleh during the conference.

Ambassador Baker said that the event is not all about music but also about charity, about giving and about the Diary of Hope, something that was started eight years ago. "The Diary of Hope 2012 is on sale for KD 5 and I hope you will be able to buy one or many more of those so the money will go to a good cause," he added.

All proceeds went to Kuwait and International charities, including BAACH Bayt Abdullah's children Hospice for terminally ill children. Donations were gratefully received by the registered charity The Hope Foundation.

The Radisson Blu Hotel Kuwait has been working closely with the Kuwait Chamber Philharmonia and various classical music concerts take place at its Al Hashemi Ballroom through out a year. It was the third time the Concert of Hope took place at the Radisson Blu Hotel Kuwait city. It was attended by 400 people and was a great success.
