Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Media City achieves Green Key certification

The Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Media City, part of The Rezidor Hotel Group, has further enhanced its commitment to Responsible Business, announcing its recent Green Key certification, a globally recognized eco-label.

"We are proud to be one of six hotels in the country to currently have the Green Key certification," says Francois Galoisy, General Manager at the Radisson Blu Hotel Dubai Media City.

The Green Key is a global eco-label for the leisure industry. In order to gain the Green Key certification, hotels have to fulfil a list of environmental requirements, covering a wide range of criteria; from environmental demands, to demands on policy, availability of action plans, education and communication. Obtaining the Green Key for one of their hotels in Dubai shows the sense of responsibility The Rezidor Hotel Group has for its surroundings and society.

"We strongly believe that Responsible Business is getting more and more important and therefore our team regularly comes up with new eco-friendly activities. Our latest initiative was the implementation of eco-friendly paper in the entire hotel to reduce the impact on the environment," says Galoisy.

Rezidor's company-wide Responsible Business programme which was launched in 2001 and comprises responsibility for guest and employee health and safety, respect for social and ethical issues within the company and reduced environmental impact. The Radisson Blu Hotel, Bristol announces the appointment of a new General Manager

The Radisson Blu Hotel, Bristol, part of the rapidly-expanding Rezidor Hotel Group, has appointed Christopher Peach as the General Manager of the Radisson Blu Hotel, Bristol. Christopher brings managerial experience and a range of other hospitality-related skills to the position.

Christopher has an extensive background in the hospitality industry, spanning 23 years. Having started his career in 1987 as Commis Chef aboard the Queen Elizabeth II cruise liner, he has since held various management positions at different international hotel chains in South Africa, China, Bahrain, UAE, Turkey and Russia.

This new appointment has Christopher returning to his native Britain, where he will manage one of only a few waterfront hotels in Bristol city centre. Though this is the first time Christopher will work at the Hotel Bristol, he isn't new to Rezidor, having joined the hotel company in February 2011 as Executive Assistant Manager of the Park Inn by Radisson Pribaltiyskaya in St. Petersburg. His role at this Russian hotel was Christopher's most recent position.

In addition to his experience in the hotel industry, Christopher holds a Diploma as Chef from the Bournemouth and Poole College of Further Education in the UK. Acclaimed as a young chef, Christopher won the regional and national Junior Chaîne Des Rôtisseurs Competition, and represented South Africa in the World Finals in Germany. Among his many additional professional qualifications, Christopher holds a Master in Food Services Management from Cornell University. Though Christopher is filling a management role, and not working as part of the hotel's food service team, his experience in this field will undoubtedly help him in his position as General Manager.

Radisson Blu Schwarzer Bock Hotel, Wiesbaden offers per diem rate

The Radisson Blu Schwarzer Bock Hotel, Wiesbaden is to offer a per diem rate due to a change in location of its headquarters. During the next two years the US Army Europe, the Seventh Army and the US Army Corps will move to Wiesbaden and the hotel is therefore looking forward to welcome them as guests.

Rezidor Hotel Group's Radisson Blu Arlandia Hotel has announced the launch of the meeting concept, Brain Food. Brain Food is a healthy choice of food that not only looks beautiful but also stimulates the mind and ensures a stable blood sugar throughout the day.

To launch the new Brain Food Meeting Concept the hotel Stockholm airport hosted a successful evening with a delicious dinner, entertainment and duty free shopping at the airport. The Park Inn by Radisson Bedford has proudly announced a milestone achievement with four dedicated members of the team having recently reached a combined 100 years of service at the hotel.

This truly amazing accomplishment demonstrates a level of loyalty rarely seen in these modern times. Team members Alan Abrahams, Hardish Kaur, Eddie Jones and Darryl Wilson have spent most of their careers at the hotel, serving thousands of guests and experiencing numerous changes in the hotel throughout their time, including a number of owners and General Managers over the years.

To mark this extra special occasion, Rebekka Hammersley, General Manager hosted a special awards ceremony on Wednesday 30th November for all team members - the date marking the 40th anniversary of Alan Abrahams employment - making him the longest serving employee in the history of the Bedford hotel.

The Radisson Blu Waterfront wins prestigious Green Tourism Business Gold Award

The Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel's introduction of a range of measures to help safeguard both the local and global environment and community in which the hotel operates has been nationally acknowledged by the Green Tourism Business Scheme.

The four star Jersey hotel, which is situated near to the Island's south coast Ramsar site of special interest, is the first hotel in the Channel Islands to achieve a Gold Award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme, the UK's leading sustainable tourism certification scheme.

Commenting on the Radisson Blu Waterfront hotel's assessment, Paul Jeffries from Green Tourism said: "This is an admirable achievement due to a range of outstanding good practice initiatives. Highlights include 'Eco Active Business' membership, excellent energy and water monitoring and strong commitment to local environmental and community projects. The hotel's links to, and promotion of 'Genuine Jersey' is impressive, and its involvement in local charities along with sponsorship of various sporting events and festivals reflects a strong commitment to sustainability in a wider sense."

Applicants to the scheme are scrutinised on over 145 separate measures covering a range of areas such as energy and water efficiency, waste management, biodiversity and more. Qualified advisors then award accreditations ranging from Bronze through to the highest achievable grade, Gold.

An East Midlands Airport Double Win at the British Travel Awards 2011

East Midlands Airport secured both Best Regional UK Airport and UK Airport of the Year at this year's British Travel Awards 2011, celebrating its fourth successive travel award win in less than three months.

The announcement was made at a Gala Awards Dinner, held at Battersea Evolution in London and attended by more than one thousand travel industry professionals. Shortlisted organisations were first nominated by experts from the industry before being voted for on-line by the British public. In 2011, over 700,000 votes were cast with the results scrutinised and audited by Deloitte LLP.

East Midlands Airport was crowned Best Regional UK Airport ahead of 13 other airports; including Newcastle, Leeds Bradford and Belfast City Airports and successfully secured UK Airport of the Year against 17 other major airports; including London Heathrow, London Gatwick and Liverpool John Lennon Airports.

The award coincides with the recent opening of the Radisson Blu Hotel at East Midlands Airport

£22m Luxury Hotel Welcomes Its First Guests

The first guests at the new £22m luxury Radisson Blu hotel opened at East Midlands Airport this week were presented with a bottle of champagne by the hotel’s General Manager Daniel Keane.

The family from Staffordshire were the first to check into the hotel’s elegant Presidential Suite with its separate spacious lounge with seating area, and complimentary mini bar, bathrobe, slippers, newspapers and breakfast.

Paul Rose, of JPR Group, brought his wife Anna and daughter Roxie Marandi to experience the hotel’s offer in advance of their company’s motor racing championships awards dinner for 160 guests booked at the hotel in November.

Paul said: “The last time I saw the presidential suite I was in a hard hat and wellies. The hotel looks fantastic today and all the staff have been very welcoming and friendly.

“I have never used the East Midlands Airport hotels before for my company but now we have this standard of hotel available, it makes perfect sense for my customers as it’s very easy to reach by road and by air.”

Radisson Blu announces the re-launch of The Box Appeal

Radisson Blu and Park Inn Hotels have announced the re-launch and re-branding of The Box Appeal (formerly known as the ShoeBox Appeal) for 2011. The charity campaign aims to help more people than ever before acorss the Middle East and runs until the 15th of September. Held in conjunction with the Red Crescent, the campaign aims to provide labourers across the UAE with essential every day necessities.

Now in its 4th year, this is the first time that all Radisson Blu and Park Inn Hotels in the UAE will take part. In addition they will be joined by Radisson Blu and Park Inn Hotels in Oman, Egypt and Bahrain. Overall 10 hotels will take part, with the seven hotels in the UAE aiming to collect 10,000 boxes between them.

Due to The Box Appeal's growing success the campaign has been given a new look and brand from local design agency North55. The creative agency designed a new logo that captures the essence of the appeal, giving the campaign a unique identity.

North55 is not the only local company to generously donate time and resources to The Box Appeal. This year Radio 1 & Radio 2, part of Gulf News Broadcasting, are supporting the campaign with an unprecedented cross station campaign. The aim is to raise more awareness, encouraging people young and old to get involved and make a difference.

The Box Appeal asks people to give back to those who need it most by filling a small box with a list of everyday items, such as toothpaste, t-shirt, a cap and shaving cream. To take part all participants have to do is pick up a box from any Radisson Blu or Park Inn Hotels in Dubai (such as the hotel in Burj Khalifa), Abu Dhabi or Sharjah fill with the list of items and return to the hotel.

"As a company we have a long history of responsible business. It seems fitting to take this campaign region wide this year and help as many people as possible. It only takes a little time and effort to make a big difference," said Marko Hytonen, Area Vice President, Rezidor Hotel Group.

"We're also really pleased to see how much support The Box Appeal has garnered from local charities and companies, including Red Crescent, North55 and Gulf News Broadcasting. The Box Appeal was initially founded by Radisson Blu Hotel Dubai, Media City, the first campaign was such a success in the following years Radisson Blu and Park Inn Hotels in Abu Dhabi Yas Island also joined the campaign. Over the four years the appeal has run, over 20,000 boxes have been donated, the equivalent of 2 million AED.

Rezidor announces the Radisson Blu Mammy Yoko Hotel

The Rezidor Hotel Group, one of the fastest growing hotel companies worldwide, has expanded its network to 64 countries across Europe, Middle East and Africa and announced the Radisson Blu Mammy Yoko Hotel, Freetown in Sierra Leone. Formerly known as "Mammy Yoko Hotel", the property featuring 171 rooms will be re-branded in Q4 2011.

"We are delighted to enter a further country in West Africa - the region is one of our focus markets for future business development, and this hotel perfectly complements other current and upcoming projects in Dakar, Bamako, Lagos, Accra, and Abuja", said Kurt Ritter, president & CEO of Rezidor.

Sierra Leone continues to emerge from the aftermath of the civil war, democracy has been re-established in the country, and the IMF has completed a poverty reduction and growth facility program which has improved economic growth and reduced inflation levels. Stability has also led to a revival of key economic activities, such as mining.

The original Mammy Yoko Hotel was an operating hotel for around 30 years. Business was interrupted in 1997 as a result of the civil conflict and the building was heavily damaged. The property is undergoing a complete overhaul and it will re-emerge in late 2011 as the premier hotel for aid agencies, diplomats and business travellers. Besides 171 rooms, the hotel will comprise of a restaurant with outdoor terrace, several bars, and meeting rooms. An outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, duty free shopping and a gym will also be available.

The hotel's name derivates from Mammy Yoko, the "Queen of Senehun" who brought the whole Kpaa Mende region (now comprising 14 separate chiefdoms) under her control through coalitions, warfare and her alliance with the British. She established a famous Sande bush in Senehun where she trained girls from throughout the area. Queen Victoria of England presented Mammy Yoko with a medal for her loyalty.

Rezidor announces the Park Inn London Wembley

Radisson Blu Hotel Bristol unveils recent upgrades

Radisson Blu Hotel Bristol has unveiled its recent upgrades marking the official completion of Bristol's most recently opened hotel.

The final phase of the hotel's construction started in June 2010 and was officially completed just before Christmas. Customers have already given excellent feedback about the hotel's new look.

Radisson Blu Hotel, Bristol director of sales and marketing, Kathrin Cockhill commented: "We are very pleased to celebrate the official completion of the hotel. We believe these finishing touches deliver what our customers expect from a Radisson Blu hotel and with our Radisson service concepts and "Yes I Can" values, we feel we have a great product to offer to the Bristol marketplace."

The work involved in the final construction phase included finishing touches to the reception area, conference facilities and dining outlets. The lobby has been improved to include a unique, virtual aquarium that utilises 4 x 32 inch LED screens to imitate serene and life-like underwater scenes.

The reception area of the Bristol hotel has also changed shape and has been improved with a newly lit ramp, signage, carpeting and re-designed seating areas that are both inviting and comfortable. In addition, the hotel has improved its conference facilities on offer by adding new equipment and furniture to its meetings and events floor.

The hotel's Filini restaurant also has a new look, with the addition of a signature wine wall, a red glass feature window and digital scenes of Italy throughout the restaurant. Guests will be able to sample the menu with premier seating at the new 'Filini Taster Table' that must be booked in advance of dining. Filini offers a smart, modern and uncluttered atmosphere with simply-cooked Italian and Sardinian food, based on carefully-sourced local and authentic ingredients.

The Bar at the hotel in Bristol offers a contemporary work setting for business travellers during the day and a lively cocktail lounge by night. Upgrades to The Bar include new sofas and chairs from Italy and a more relaxing environment for guests.The Bar now offers complimentary canapés for all guests from 5.30 pm to 7.00 pm every evening and visitors can also enjoy Piano jazz nights with live music from 6.00pm to 8.00pm every Wednesday.

In November, the Radisson Blu was awarded a Bristol Civic Society Environmental Award to celebrate the city's best buildings. The hotel is located across from The Bristol Hippodrome in Bristol's city centre, just walking distance from the main city centre shopping area near Cabot Circus.

Rezidor announces addition of the Radisson Blu Hotel, Accra, Ghana

The Rezidor Hotel Group, one of the fastest growing hotel companies worldwide, has announced its 10th hotel in West Africa: The Radisson Blu Hotel, Accra in Ghana, which is scheduled to open in 2013 and adds 168 rooms to Rezidor's pipeline.

Radisson Blu Lyon announces commitment to sustainable tourism

Radisson Blu Lyon has announced it is committed to developing sustainable tourism. Initiatives that are being put in place include helping children at local orphanages, reducing the paper consumption levels in the hotel and inviting guests to visit 'green' places of interest.

The Radisson Blu Lyon hotel possesses The Green Key, which is awarded to tourism and leisure facilities. The Green Key is designed to raise awareness to the need to run a responsible business in the tourism and leisure sector. To be awarded with The Green Key the Radisson Blu Lyon had to fulfill a list of requirement which make it more 'green'. Attached to this, the hotel pays particular attention to ethics, the environment and social responsibilities.

All of the actions undertaken by the Radisson Blu hotel in Lyon are design to establish a real responsible business. Rezidor Hotel Group achieves third consecutive record year of hotel openings

The Rezidor Hotel Group has announced a third consecutive record year of openings: in 2010, the company opened 7,200 rooms and exceeded their results for 2008 (6,500 rooms) and 2009 (7,100 rooms).

Among the highlights of Rezidor's openings in 2010 were flagships such as the Radisson Blu Hotel, Milan, one of the most stylish hotels in the city and the Radisson Blu Gautrain Hotel Sandton, Johannesburg in the heart of South Africa's most important financial district. Also of note is the luxurious Radisson Royal Hotel, Moscow, the former Hotel Ukraina, one of Stalin's legendary "Seven Sisters" skyscrapers.

Rezidor also concluded an outstanding portfolio deal in April 2010 and took over the management of the former Reval Hotels, the biggest hotel chain in the Baltics (2,300 rooms in 10 hotels in Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania and Russia). Also in 2010, 18 hotels were opened under the Park Inn by Radisson brand. These included projects in European cities such as Frankfurt, Oslo and Stockholm - hotels which demonstrate Rezidor's continued success in developing the brand in their home markets.

Two fantastic launches await Sweden as well: in Stockholm Rezidor will open the Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel featuring 414 rooms adjacent to Scandinavia's largest congress centre, and in Malmö a new Park Inn is scheduled for a first quarter opening.

Radisson Blu Hotel Tallinn awarded Green Key certificate

Radisson Blu Hotel Tallinn, Estonia has announced that it now holds the Green Key eco-label certificate.

The Green Key is an international eco-label for tourism and hospitality enterprises, recognizing their sense of responsibility for the environment and their local communities in general.

To obtain the Green Key certificate an organization has to comply with a list of environmental and social awareness criteria.

For Radisson Blu Hotels, the Green Key is a way of reaching out to guests and the community on how to attain in its business activities the harmony that is possible between quality, service and environmentally friendly performance.

Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Deira Creek acquires Green Globe status

Radisson Blu's property in Dubai, the Dubai Deira Creek Hotel has been awarded Green Globe Certification.

The luxury hotel in Dubai, which originally opened in 1975, was officially recognized for its environmentally friendly practices after consulting Dubai-based sustainability experts Farnek Avireal which paved the way and brought the Dubai hotels, existing green policies through Responsible Business to meet the exacting certification standards.

Chief Engineer Arthur Rodrigues said: "The Green Globe Certification Audit is based on a number of environmental factors, in all we had 250 points to address. Some of the inefficient old and high-power consuming air-conditioning equipment was replaced, coupled with the energy saving wheel, which cools hot air drawn from outside, before passing it through the hotel chillers. It is always more challenging for an older property to attain such rigorous standards, but considering that, it is so much more rewarding to be recognised for our achievements."

The Green Globe brand and programme, has primarily been used in the travel and tourism industry but is now being expanded to include a growing number of environmentally responsible businesses in a variety of market sectors. The GGC stamp of approval is an ideal symbol for the world's increasing awareness of environmental responsibility and response to global climate change.

"We had already completed a number of sustainability initiatives, such as energy and resource saving, the use of biodegradable chemicals and recycling initiatives, but achieving Green Globe status will now have a positive effect on every aspect of the hotel operation," added Rodrigues.

Radisson Blu Martinez Hotel - Beirut to receive complete renovation in 2011

The five star Radisson Blu Martinez Hotel in Beirut which is located within the city's business and shopping districts has been announced as about to receive a full renovation starting in January.

The upgrades on the Radisson Blu Martinez Hotel are planned to be completed by June 2011 which should further add to the hotel's popularity, and while the hotel will not close its doors during the renovation period, all efforts will be made to prevent any noise and disturbance to its guests.

For the guest rooms, a complete floor-by-floor renovation will take place which will be implemented in a way which will not affect guests during their stay at the hotel. The Beirut hotels manager has promised guests that, "The renovation in our hotel will take a few months and will be done in a professional manner which won't annoy or disturb our guests".

The renovation of this luxury hotel in Beirut means that a completely new phase will be implemented throughout the hotel's public areas, including the reception, lobby lounge, restaurants and guests' rooms, right down to the tiniest detail.

Key to the upgrade will be the "Olivos" restaurant which will be transformed into the "Filini" Italian restaurant, with everything in the restaurant receiving a thorough make-over, from the menu through to the plates, dishes and decorations.

The complete makeover of the rooms, will include a modern design and furniture created specifically to fit the theme and hotel's new look.

The lobby lounge will also receive a complete remodeling, featuring a modern new design with new lighting and colors, as well as facilities to provide a welcoming space for group entertaining. Alternatively, guests wanting to maintain a feeling of privacy can conduct their meetings or connect socially in the Filini bar.

The goal of the renovation is to improve and change the Radisson Blu Martinez Hotel in Beirut in order to match the demands of guests and their modern lives whilst enabling them to feel as comfortable as they would in their own home.
