We are delighted to be able to offer people who are trying to lose weight with more options, which are portion-controlled, low in fat and high in protein. We hope the new healthy ready meal range will allow people to explore new flavours and recipes safe in the knowledge that they are not going to jeopardise their weight loss goals."

LighterLife is the UK's industry leader in weight loss and weight management with an established, highly successful approach to significant weight loss and lifetime weight management. This successful approach has enabled LighterLife clients to change their relationship with food and achieve long lasting weight loss.

About LighterLife:
LighterLife is a weight-loss and weight-management programme for people who are one stone or more overweight and with a body mass index of 25 or above. The LighterLife UK Obesity Barometer shows that although overweight or obese averages decreased in some regions, overall, the nation has piled on the pounds over the last few weeks.

Whilst over one third of people questioned before the holidays in the UK were worried about putting on a few pounds over the festive season, the LighterLife UK Obesity Barometer shows that, in reality, over a million people have piled on enough weight to slip into the overweight or obese categories (Overweight Body Mass Index (BMI) = 25–29.9, Obese BMI = 30+).

The LighterLife UK Obesity Barometer has been developed with the National Obesity Forum to track the changing rates of obesity by region across the UK throughout 2011.

Dr David Haslam, chair of the National Obesity Forum, said: "We all know obesity rates are rising so we are pleased to support the LighterLife UK Obesity Barometer as a way of tracking obesity levels and raising awareness in the UK. People often put on weight at Christmas time, however it will be interesting to see how many can shift the excess pounds in the next few weeks and months. For those who have a BMI of 25 or more, they are at increased risk of health conditions such as diabetes and heart disease, so it's important that the weight gained is lost. The barometer will prove invaluable to track the weight of the nation at both a regional and national level."

The barometer will highlight weight across the regions in the UK and people will be able to see how this fluctuates over this coming year. Tips and advice for those worried about their weight are also provided with links to helpful advice on the LighterLife website.

Notes to Editors:
* ICM Research UK Obesity Survey 2011

About LighterLife:
LighterLife is a weight loss and weight-management programme for people who are one stone or more overweight and with a body mass index of 25 or above. Thousands of people across the country will listen to Carole's story of how she dropped three dress sizes in three months. She tells how Jackie Llewelyn-Bowen inspired her to join LighterLife after seeing her on GMTV and how easy she found LighterLife Total.

Carole began LighterLife Total in October 2009 and admits going to her counsellor Jill Bonney with the 'wrong attitude'. She said she was grumpy at her first LighterLife session and realised by the fourth day of Total that food had control over her. She met up with Jill and recognised that she wasn't the only one feeling that way, everyone in the group was in the same boat.

Carole said: "I was desperate having tried and failed every diet over the past 25 years. I needed something radical, I was out of control. I also wasn't prepared to take a whole year losing three stone on another weight loss programme. When I got on the scales after the first week I lost a whole dress size - the immediate results were motivating and also seeing everyone else in the group lose weight kept me going."

One person Carole immediately bonded with was Elisabeth Piner who started LighterLife Total at the same time as her and also lost the same amount of weight too. They have remained firm friends and meet up outside of the group for a coffee and catch up. Elisabeth has a dress hire business based in Kingston called 'Having a Ball Dress Hire' where they can both now enjoy trying on size 12 dresses.

Jill Bonney their LighterLife counsellor said, "I am absolutely delighted with how well Carole and Elizabeth have done. They both understand the importance of the Route to Management part of LighterLife Total and after nine years of Counselling I still say the key to maintaining weight loss is recognition and underneath that is planning".

-ends-

About LighterLife
LighterLife is an industry leader in weight management, with an established, highly successful approach to significant weight loss and lifetime weight management. One in ten women admitted to feeling sick when they saw their picture on Facebook and in extreme circumstances 13% avoid being photographed altogether just in case the photos end up on the social networking site.

Sue Dover, Sales and Marketing Director at LighterLife, which carried out the study, said: ''It's such a shame that people are not choosing to share their Facebook photos, and in extreme circumstances pretending to look like someone they're not. It's indicative of the pressure placed on people, particularly young women, in our society to look a certain way that is causing this to happen."

Faith Johns, a self-confessed de-tagger said, "I often use older photos from when I was a lot slimmer. If I do put up recent pictures then I'll be careful only to show my face so it's harder to see my actual size. Being tagged and seeing how big I am has contributed towards me feeling very low about my weight."

10% of the 2,000 people surveyed by OnePoll admitted putting out-of-date photos online so people think they look as good as they did when they were younger. Interestingly it appears men are more reluctant to give up the past than women. 10% of men were unwilling to put up recent pictures as they were afraid of what old colleagues and friends would say about how much they had changed, in comparison with 6% of women.

One in ten admitted to using a photo of someone else on their social networking profile, like their dog, an avatar or cartoon drawing, to avoid old friends and work mates seeing the 'real' them. Whilst one in twenty even admitted to uploading pictures of a better-looking person, like a more attractive friend, to get more attention from the opposite sex.

But it's not all bad, as 18% only put recent pictures of themselves online to show old friends and work colleagues how much they have changed. And 13% use Facebook to show people how successful their weight loss has been.

Sue added: "On a more positive note it's reassuring that social media can be used by people to promote their new found confidence. A lot of our clients at LighterLife comment that our diet has given them a new lease of life and they're now able to do a lot of the things they weren't able to do so previously."

-ENDS-

Notes to editors
*Over 22 million Facebook users in the UK according to checkfacebook.com

Case studies are available on request

About LighterLife
LighterLife is an industry leader in continued weight management, with an established, highly successful approach to fast weight loss and lifetime weight management. The new feel and design of the magazine has been created with the help of publishing house, Specialist Publications.

The re-launch sees the weight loss magazine take on a new, clean direction. The size of the publication has moved from A4 to a smaller handbag size, making it more user friendly. The magazine also features more LighterLife clients than ever before, whether it's at the beginning, middle or end of their weight-loss journey. Niki Webb, Specialist CEO said, "The relaunch gave us an opportunity to refresh the magazine from a photographic, design and content perspective. The new magazine is stylish and confident. The team at Specialist are very passionate about the LighterLife brand. The fact that thousands of people have battled obesity and are now managing their weight after following LighterLife is truly inspirational and something worth shouting about."

The LighterLife magazine is now available exclusively through on-line subscriptions or via LighterLife counsellors and the new format sees the publication become available on a quarterly basis.

The decision to remove the magazine from the news stand provided the opportunity to make the magazine more specific to the LighterLife clients, whilst more care has been taken over the wording and language used, ensuring new clients and other audiences who might read the magazine will not be alienated but engaged in the content, and have an understanding of LighterLife.

Heather Butcher, LighterLife PR & Communications Manager commented "The new magazine will include further in-depth articles about our clients really exploring why they put on weight and how they found their individual LighterLife Journey. Steven, or Mr. August, can now enjoy a full game of football without feeling tired and Rod, who features in September, is now training for a triathalon to help maintain his five stone weight loss.

LighterLife weight-management Counsellor Gina Lennon, who coordinated the men during the calendar photo shoot, said: "I'm delighted to have been involved in this project. There has been a great deal of interest and this has definitely put the fun back into fundraising. The calendar boys have achieved so much - losing such large amounts of weight, maintaining their weight loss, overcoming fears about their body image and baring all to raise money for a very worthwhile charity."

About LighterLife
LighterLife is an industry leader in weight management, with an established, highly successful approach to significant weight loss and lifetime weight management. Shockingly, 33% of obese or very obese people admitted that they also called others names despite being overweight themselves. And it is friends who appear to receive the brunt of this abuse. Overall, 68% reserved abuse for their friends, 15% insulted their siblings while partners and parents are equal at 10% each.

Mandy Cassidy, a psychotherapist with LighterLife, said: "It's sad that adults now find such behaviour acceptable, particularly so among the younger age groups, as they could well carry these views as they get older, thus increasing the problem even further.

People can appear to shrug off comments, she added, but inside, they can be devastated: "Often it is only through counselling that the full impact becomes clear - many of our clients have resorted to avoiding social occasions and decline invitations.

"Even some people who appear totally confident say that they become 'really good liars' and concoct a range of excuses for not attending events which can drive them indoors to eat as a way of dealing with their hurt and anger, compounding the problem.

"Just because someone is overweight, it doesn't mean it's acceptable to insult them. This type of prejudice isn't tolerated in any other walk of life so we shouldn't allow it here."

About LighterLife
LighterLife is a weight loss and weight management programme for people who are one stone or more overweight and with a body mass index of 25 or above. A massive 98% of size 16+ women stated they felt unattractive, and while 68% of obese people said they have never felt sexy, just 12% of those with a normal BMI said the same.

When it comes to frolicking in the bedroom more than one in five said the lack of bedroom activity was because they couldn't bear the thought of someone seeing them naked compared with just three per cent of those who have a normal BMI.

Mandy Cassidy psychotherapist and consultant for LighterLife, said: "The study shows that being obese affects the mind as well as the body, and reveals the problems faced by so many people.

"For growing numbers of people, it's a vicious circle - many use food as a substitute for love, and as the pounds pile on, their relationship switches from their partners, to food.

"They need to learn how to break the cycle - and clearly, for those who do, the sauce will not be in the kitchen, but in the bedroom."

About LighterLife
LighterLife is a weight loss and weight-management programme for people who are one stone or more overweight and with a bmi of 25 or above. Over 150,000 people have successfully lost weight with LighterLife since 1996.

The unique LighterLife approach offers programmes specific to the obese and the overweight in the form of weight loss diets, nutritionally complete soups, shakes and bars combined with specialised counselling using cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and transactional analysis (TA) techniques. Clients not only safely lose weight fast but also benefit by learning the behavioural changes needed to sustain it.

Founded in 1996, the LighterLife Programme was developed by three of its directors - Jackie Cox, Bar Hewlett and Rebecca Hunter.

LighterLife PR Contact:
Heather Howell
PR Executive
LighterLife
Cavendish House
Parkway
Harlow Business Park
Harlow
Essex
5QF CM19
01279 636998
www.lighterlife.com
http://en.brinkwire.com/280 Fri, 31 Jul 2009 09:05:42 GMT lighterlife weight-loss diet LighterLife appoints new CEO and Sales and Marketing Director
LighterLife, the weight loss and weight management programme for those who are one stone or more overweight, has announced that Sara Jamison is to be the company's new Chief Executive Officer.

Sara originally joined LighterLife in January 2007 as the Sales and Marketing Director.
