Etihad Airways celebrates Manchester City title win

Etihad Airways has led the cheers of celebration for Manchester City as the club was crowned Barclays Premier League champions with victory over Queens Park Rangers at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester.

It was the first time since 1968 that Manchester City has won the title in England's top tier of football and the first time the club has lifted the Barclays Premier League trophy.

James Hogan, Etihad Airways' President and Chief Executive Officer, said: "We congratulate everyone at Manchester City for their fantastic achievement this season and securing the Premier League title.

"Etihad Airways is immensely proud to be a close partner and friend of Manchester City and look forward to celebrating this famous moment with the management, staff and players at the club.

The Etihad Airways logo has been on the Manchester City shirt since 2009 and the Abu Dhabi-based airline became naming sponsor of the club’s Etihad Stadium and Campus in August 2011.

To celebrate the final day of the season and show their support of Manchester City, staff at Etihad Airways wore sky blue coloured attire at work on Sunday 13 May.

Etihad Airways' sports teams set for season climax

Excitement is building at Etihad Airways as two of the airline’s sporting partners - Manchester City Football Club and Harlequins Rugby Club - look to end the season triumphantly with success in their respective domestic league's blockbuster games.

The Abu Dhabi-based airline is lead and shirt sponsor at both English clubs, with Manchester City striving to win the Barclays Premier League title on Sunday, 13 May at the Etihad Stadium when they play Queens Park Rangers. If successful, it will be the first time since 1968 that Manchester City has won the title in England's top tier of football and the club needs to equal or better the result of nearest rivals Manchester United to be crowned champions.

Rugby Union side Harlequins will take on Northampton Saints on Saturday, 12 May at the Twickenham Stoop in the first semi final of the Aviva Premiership, looking to book a place in the final at Twickenham two weeks later.

Chris Robshaw has enjoyed a phenomenal season being named England captain for the RBS Six Nations 2012 and recently winning the Premiership player of the season award.

Five Harlequins players including Robshaw were also named in the ESPN dream team for the 2011/12 season. The fellow Harlequins players are Joe Marler, Mike Brown, George Lowe and Nick Easter.

British Airways launch sale with up to thirty per cent off flights

British Airways has started a twelve day sale, ending on March 27, which includes hundreds of great value holiday packages as well as flights to more than 90 worldwide destinations for various travel departures between March 15, 2012 and January 31, 2013.

Travellers can discover a new city or just enjoy one of the offers on short breaks to Europe including two night holidays in Nice from Gatwick and accommodation only at the 2 star Comte de Nice. Menorca is another option with a two night break at the 4 star San Luis including accommodation with breakfast and return flights from London City. Costa del Sol holidays also feature in the sale with a seven night fly-drive to Malaga including return flights from Gatwick and Avis car rental.

Royal couple send off British Airways relief flight to East Africa

British Airways responded to a UNICEF appeal, which is being backed by The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, to help the 13 million victims of the East African crisis by sending a relief flight full of aid to the region.

In their first joint humanitarian mission, the royal couple toured a British Airways' relief plane, a Boeing 747, at Copenhagen airport on Wednesday, November 2 following their visit to UNICEF's warehouse in Denmark's capital.

Keith Williams, British Airways' CEO, said: "We immediately agreed to donate an aircraft to help UNICEF get their aid to East Africa. The team at British Airways has launched a number of these flights in recent years to crisis-hit areas such as Haiti and Japan so we're well practised in getting the aircraft and team out as soon as possible. We need to help keep a focus on the crisis in East Africa so this is our second relief flight to the region. We're delighted the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be seeing the flight off."

The aircraft, operating under flight number BA9116C, departed Copenhagen International Airport at 1800 hours (local time) en route for Nairobi laden with 45 tonnes of UNICEF aid including life saving emergency medical supplies to help children affected by diseases such as cholera and diarrhoea.

The eight-hour flight was operated by a team of three pilots and four cabin crew. Also on board were British Airways engineering staff who were responsible for loading and unloading the aid, and a member of UNICEF's supply staff.

As well as filling the cargo hold, the aircraft's cabins, which would normally be full of passengers flying to destinations such as Los Angeles and Hong Kong, were commandeered to ensure as much aid as possible reaches the stricken region.

UNICEF UK's Executive Director, David Bull, commented: "We know that when children are malnourished their immune systems are weakened and they become very susceptible to life threatening diseases such as cholera and diarrhoea. We need to help these children urgently. The supplies being packed on this plane will help UNICEF to save these children's lives. On behalf of everyone at UNICEF I want to extend my huge thanks to all at British Airways who have helped make this happen."

It is more than three months since famine was declared in parts of East Africa, following the worst drought in 50 years, which has devastated food sources across Dijbouti, Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia. Without rain for two successive seasons, crops failed and livestock perished. Food prices soared, forcing at least 600,000 people to flee their villages in search of food, water and medicine, making treacherous journeys to refugee camps. At least 13 million people require assistance and half of those are children.

British Airways provides East Africa relief flight

British Airways has flown a relief aircraft full of emergency supplies and equipment to victims of the food crisis in East Africa, where over half a million people are directly at risk of starvation.

A Boeing 747 freighter with capacity for up to 110 tonnes of cargo, flew to Ethiopia on Friday, August 12, carrying aid from Oxfam and UNICEF.

Following severe droughts, resulting in the worst food crisis the world has seen for 20 years, the two charities are among those working in the region to bring much-needed relief to over 12 million people at risk from famine, disease and drought across Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia.

The aircraft carried 5,000 meters of pipe from Oxfam, which will be used to supply much-needed water to the Dolo Ado refugee camp in Ethiopia, as well as vital emergency food and medical supplies from UNICEF.

British Airways' customers are also playing their part. For two weeks from August 1, all donations onboard every British Airways flight were going to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) appeal for East Africa.

British Airways began helping the relief effort by carrying over seven and a half tonnes of water tanks, tapstands, pipes and water pumps from Oxfam as free cargo on a scheduled flight to Nairobi.

The airline also gave Oxfam free flights to Kenya to get 40 relief experts into the worst affected areas as quickly as possible.

Keith Williams, British Airways' chief executive, said: "The worst drought in 50 years means the lives of millions of people hang in the balance. The generosity of our customers will make a real and tangible difference to those in desperate need.

"It is vital that we get aid from charities like Oxfam and UNICEF to the most seriously affected areas across East Africa. We want to do what we can to help those caught up in this terrible crisis."

Barbara Stocking, Oxfam's chief executive, said: "We have been moved to see the generosity of the British public over the last month and Oxfam is now reaching over a million people in East Africa. But there is still much more to be done.

"British Airways is showing incredible hands-on support for the relief effort, delivering vital supplies straight to where they are so desperately needed and flying our emergency staff into the region to work on the ground.

"Not only is their support worth over £250,000 in cost savings to Oxfam but the donations from their customers to the DEC will help fund even more life-saving work in the region."

David Bull, UNICEF UK's executive director, said: "When children are facing famine, because crops have failed, because food is scarce, it’s time to share a little of what we’ve got. British Airways has been extremely generous in sharing its cargo space.

"This means that UNICEF can buy more emergency food supplies and can deliver life saving food to hungry children much faster. In South Somalia alone, 250 children are dying every day.

"British Airways responded to UNICEF’s appeal and donated their cargo space travelling to the Horn of Africa. We urge all airlines to follow this fantastic example and share whatever they can."

Etihad Airways announce Düsseldorf to become their 71st Destination

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, today announced it would commence services to Düsseldorf in Germany from December 16, 2011.

Düsseldorf is the capital city of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia and is the airline’s 71st destination. It will be connected to the airline’s hub and home base in Abu Dhabi initially by four non-stop return services per week, rising to a daily service in mid-April 2012. The route will be served by an Airbus A330-300 series aircraft, in a three-class configuration.

James Hogan, CEO of Etihad Airways, said: “The new Düsseldorf services will connect the capital of the UAE with the Düsseldorf catchment area – the second largest in Europe outside of London – which also includes the eastern part of the Netherlands. Düsseldorf and the region is an exciting destination too for inbound business and leisure travellers from Abu Dhabi and beyond.”

A key benefit to travellers of the non-stop Abu Dhabi-Düsseldorf service is convenient flight arrival and departure times and network connectivity at the airline’s hub.

Etihad announce non-stop daily flights to Shanghai

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has announced plans to expand its network in China with daily non-stop, return services between Abu Dhabi and Shanghai – subject to government approval.

The new flights, scheduled to commence on 1 March 2012, will make Shanghai the airline's 70th global destination.

Etihad Airways' Chief Executive Officer James Hogan announced the new services today in an address to 300 representatives of the global aviation industry who are attending the Aviation Outlook China Summit in Shanghai this week.

"Shanghai, the most populous city in mainland China, is a strategically important addition to Etihad's China network.

"Together with our daily flights to the capital Beijing, the Shanghai route will offer travellers competitive access to the two biggest centres for commerce, trade, government, culture, and tourism in China.

"For travellers originating in China, this means a wider choice of convenient flight options to the UAE, Middle East, Europe, and North America, and on the way, the award-winning combination of luxuriously appointed aircraft, best-in-class service, and some of the finest international cuisine in the sky.

"Through Etihad's efficient Crystal Cargo operation, we also intend to pursue growth of the valuable export trade for high tech and other commodities."

Today's announcement follows a press conference in Chengdu yesterday, where Mr Hogan released details of the airline's planned new services to the Sichuan province.

"The commencement of services to Chengdu and Shanghai and this week's increase in frequency to Beijing are major investments of aircraft and commercial resources into China. It reflects our confidence in the current strength and future potential of the inbound and outbound travel markets," Mr Hogan said.

Etihad will operate an Airbus A330-200 aircraft on the Abu Dhabi-Shanghai route, configured in Pearl Business and Coral Economy class.

Etihad reports very successful half year performance

Etihad Airways today reported its most successful first half year, with revenues up 28 per cent to US$ 1,720 million (H1 2010: US$ 1,342 million), driven by solid performances in both passenger and cargo activities.

A 2 per cent reduction in costs per available seat kilometre, despite large increases in oil prices, also helped deliver a positive EBITDAR (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, amortisation and rentals) in the six months from January 1 for the first time.

The results mark continued progress towards the airline’s goal of breaking even this year and moving into sustainable profitability in 2012.

James Hogan, Etihad Airways Chief Executive Officer, said the results were achieved despite a still fragile economy and, at times, difficult operating conditions.

They were released as Etihad, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, prepares to significantly expand its global network.

Last week flights to two new Chinese cities, Chengdu and Shanghai were announced and services to Male and the Seychelles start on November 1.

“These are exciting new destinations for us. China is a huge market and Chengdu is the economic centre and transportation and communications hub of the country’s booming southwest region.

“Shanghai is the most populous city in mainland China (23 million) and when combined with our daily flights to the capital Beijing enables us to offer local passengers convenient flight options to the UAE, Middle East, Europe and North America.

“We are determined to build a schedule which increases customer choice and attracts local point-to-point traffic in line with the Abu Dhabi 2030 plan,” Mr Hogan said.

“Also, we will continue to connect our high growth and emerging markets to Abu Dhabi and the world by linking them through the UAE capital while at the same time expanding our high value premium markets and traffic flows.”

The delivery of five new wide-body passenger aircraft – three A330-300s and two B777-300ERs during the 2011 Summer allowed frequencies to be increased to several major markets.

Manchester becomes a double -daily destination from August 1. Daily services were also introduced to Geneva, Milan and Beijing, while two extra flights to Brussels enabled the Belgian capital to be serviced eight times a week.

Mr Hogan said passenger revenues rose 21 per cent on the back of a 14 per cent growth in passenger numbers to 3.8 million and 5 per cent growth in passenger yield.

Despite political unrest in the Middle East and the Japanese earthquake, seat factor increased to 72.9 per cent (H1 2010: 72.5 per cent).

Etihad’s cargo operations enjoyed strong growth with revenues up by 32 per cent in the first half of the year, bolstered by improvement in tonnage and yields.

“This is a wonderful achievement and Etihad Crystal Cargo plays a hugely important part in the on-going success of the airline as it now contributes 20 per cent of our direct operating revenue,” Mr Hogan said.

These results reflect higher utilisation of the freighter fleet, increased business segmentation and an expansion of trucking operations in the GCC.

They were driven by a strong commercial awareness and a focus on optimising network cargo flows.

Cargo revenue surged out of the United Kingdom, the UAE, Germany, China and India,

Just last week Etihad took delivery of its first Boeing 777 Freighter, joining its cargo fleet of two Airbus A330-200F, two Airbus A300-600F aircraft and two McDonnell Douglas MD11s.

Etihad Crystal Cargo now operates to 26 cargo freighter destinations internationally and to 83 destinations across the globe.

So far this year new freighter services have also been launched to Johannesburg, Amsterdam and Kabul while the frequency of cargo services to Milan, Frankfurt-Hahn, Shanghai, Nairobi and Erbil has also been expanded because of growing demand..

. Other highlights for the first half of the year included

• Being named the airline with the Best First Class in the world for the second year running in Skytrax’s annual World Airline Awards.

• Acknowledged as the Middle East’s Leading Airline in the World Travel Awards, as voted by 213,000 travel industry professionals.

• The introduction of 100 qualified international chefs dedicated to food service excellence in Diamond First class cabins. This five-star restaurant style of service in the sky will begin on selected routes from October and be fully available on all flights offering First class by the end of the year.

• Agreements signed with three new code-share partners; Air Astana, Air New Zealand and Czech Airlines, which became Etihad’s 31st airline partner.

• The success of Etihad’s comprehensive partnership with Virgin Blue. The launch of V Australia’s Sydney-Abu Dhabi services in February enabled the airlines to offer a total of 24 weekly services between Abu Dhabi and Australia

• The graduation of Etihad’s first female Emirati co-pilot Salma Al Baloushi from the airline’s cadet program

• The dramatic expansion of Etihad’s Emiratisation scheme which will see 864 UAE nationals employed by the end of the year, representing 18 per cent of Etihad’s total workforce (up from 13 per cent in 2010.)

British Airways launches the Very, Very Big Sale

British Airways have launched its very, very big sale, with discounts off First class and all other cabins as well as more than 120 holiday destinations.

Customers can celebrate Chinese New Year in Hong Kong and save 15% in economy or 19% in Shanghai. Other destinations Cairo, Dubai, flights to Barbados and Sydney, all of which offer a saving during the sale.

Reduced prices also available in business class and the newly daily non-stop flights to Buenos Aires which will be launched in March will also be in the sale.

Destinations on offer closer to home include Dubrovnik, Lyon, Milan, Nice, Oslo, Stuttgart, Vienna, Bucharest, Larnaca and flights to Madrid.

British Airways announces continual growth of its London Gatwick network

British Airways has opened up its Gatwick gateway with a growing route network that has firmly established it as the airport's leading long haul carrier.

As the airline celebrates the first anniversary of the popular thrice-weekly Sharm el Sheikh service, it is getting ready to launch a new twice-weekly service to Cancun in November.

With other new routes launched in the past year, including Male, in the Maldives, Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and Montego Bay in Jamaica, British Airways will operate flights to 25 domestic and European destinations and 16 long haul destinations from Gatwick this winter.

The most popular long haul destinations for families are Orlando and Tampa in Florida. This follows the recent announcement of the increased frequency of flights to Tampa, starting on March 27, 2011. Other hotspots for holidays include the Dominican Republic, holidays in the Maldives and Cancun. With increased frequency to St Kitts, Grenada, Barbados and Bermuda in summer 2010 and further increases to flights to Barbados, Antigua, St Lucia and Cancun, British Airways officially now offers more seats to the Caribbean from the UK than any other carrier.

With its substantial short haul programme British Airways has established itself as a favourite for city breaks in Europe, offering Euro Traveller, the Economy cabin for short haul flights, and Club Europe, BA's Business Class cabin. Popular choices from Gatwick include flights to Amsterdam, Rome and Faro. For the summer months, holidays in Dubrovnik are also an option.

Flights to Sharm el Sheikh and other new long haul routes are operated by Boeing 777 aircraft with a three-class configuration: World Traveller, World Traveller Plus and Club World.

British Airways continues an excellent punctuality performance at Gatwick Airport with the airport achieving the best monthly punctuality figures British Airways has ever recorded in March.

In June, British Airways was the most punctual major carrier at Gatwick, with 87 per cent of short haul and domestic flights departing on time and 86 per cent of international flights on time. Sharm el Sheikh was the second most punctual route from Gatwick during the summer.

Now Executive Club iPhone users on short haul flights can also use the new Mobile Boarding Passes on their phones - introduced at Gatwick earlier this month - which can be scanned at check-in to speed up and enhance the boarding process.

In addition, customers using Android and Blackberry devices will now be able to benefit from a version of the British Airways App.

The airport experience is further enhanced as British Airways' customers will benefit from the £900 million investment by Gatwick Airport to upgrade and modernise the North and South Terminals.

The twenty day sale offers discounted flights to over 100 destinations worldwide as well as 100's of holidays for various travel departures from August 26, 2010 right through to June 30, 2011.

British Airways celebrates 80 years of flights to Delhi

British Airways is celebrating its 80th anniversary of providing flights to the Indian capital Delhi.

The maiden British Airways flight to Delhi left the United Kingdom on Wednesday, December 30, 1929. It took almost a whole week to complete and cost £130 one way - the equivalent of £6,190 in today’s money. The very first journey involved four different aircraft and included 20 stops along the way. Customers spent nights in hotels, and for the leg between Switzerland and Italy they travelled not by aircraft but instead by train.

International travel has certainly taken off since 1929, with British Airways now operating 45 flights a week between the United Kingdom and India, flying to five Indian cities. Flights today take an average of 10 hours and the airline offers flights to Delhi as well as Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Mumbai.

British Airways also offers an exciting range of hotels in Delhi, with excellent service and great facilities as well as luxurious hotels in Mumbai, many of them well known big brands.

British Airways has been commemorating the anniversary in India with a series of local events including photographic exhibitions in the cities of New Delhi and Mumbai to illustrate the different modes of travel across the eight decades.

LAN airlines monthly statistics report for November 2009

LAN Airlines S.A. and its subsidiaries, ('LAN' or 'the Company') (NYSE:LFL / IPSA: LAN), one of the leading airlines in Latin America, has reported its preliminary monthly traffic statistics and punctuality indicators for November 2009.

LAN Airlines system passenger traffic for November increased 13.3% as capacity rose 8.8%. As a result, the Company's load factor increased 3.2 points to 79.5%. International passenger traffic accounted for approximately 69% of total passenger traffic.

Domestic passenger traffic in Chile, Argentina, Peru and Ecuador rose 9.0% as capacity increased 7.1%. As a consequence, the domestic load factor for the month increased 1.4 points to 79.4%.

International passenger traffic for November rose 15.4% as capacity increased 9.5%. Accordingly, the international passenger load factor for the month increased 4.0 points to 79.6%. International capacity was mainly driven by an increase in operations on routes to the Unites States and Europe, as well as on certain regional routes.

During the month of November cargo traffic increased 9.9%. This increase was mainly due to the recovery in import and export markets in Latin America, as well as increased operations to Europe. In line with the higher demand, capacity grew 4.8%. As a result, the cargo load factor rose 3.4 points reaching 74.1%.

During November, 88.3% of the Company's total flights left on time based on a fifteen-minute standard (all departures leaving within fifteen minutes of the scheduled departure time are considered as "on-time"). This represented a decrease of 3.7 points compared to November 2008.

Currently, LAN Airlines and its affiliates operate one of the most modern fleets in the world, with 84 passenger aircraft, and its cargo subsidiary, LAN CARGO and its respective cargo affiliates, have a fleet of 11 dedicated freighters. British Airways and Malaga City make plans for a joint future

British Airways online and direct sales manager, Keith Chuter, and Francisco De La Torre, the Mayor of Malaga Town Hall, put pen to paper this month, signing a letter of intent, making official their plans to further promote Malaga City in the British market. The letter lays the foundations of a two year agreement that will see British Airways use its online channels, to highlight the many flights available to Malaga from the UK, and further increase tourism to the city.

The agreement, set to begin in early 2010, will incorporate a two phase marketing, media and advertising campaign. Phase one will see British Airways expand its online channels, allowing it to strongly promote and sell Malaga. Two familiarisation trips will take place to highlight the city's Picasso links, cultural and historic offerings, year-round events, fantastic gastronomy and prestigious hotels.

Phase two will involve the expansion of communication channels and development of advertising campaigns. The campaign will also see British Airways contract tours to the city, which will appear on the Malaga Turismo website, with a hyperlink to the British Airways website.

The agreement is scheduled to end in the Spring/Summer of 2011 however, if the campaign has been a great success it's likely a further two year agreement will be signed.

British Airways currently operates 12 flights to Malaga from the UK every week and also offers a wide range of hotels, from the 3* value-for-money Atarazanas Malaga Boutique Hotel to the magnificent 4*+ Petit Palace Plaza ideally located in the historic centre. British Airways, the official airline partner of the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games has signed up snowboarders Ben Kilner and Zoe Gillings - two of TeamGB's best hopefuls for the forthcoming 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games.

British Airways will support the athletes with flights to visit the world's best snowboarding destinations, such as Vancouver, vital for training and competition. Ben and Zoe will also promote the BA Great Britons Programme a £500,000 travel fund offering flights for budding British talent.

Currently ranked the number one snow sport athlete in the UK and fifth in the world, 24-year-old Zoe Gillings from the Isle of Man, is no stranger to competing at high profile events. She competed in the 2006 Olympic Winter Games to secure 15th place and has since gone on to win a number of titles, including the highly coveted 'British Olympic Association Athlete of the Year' this year.

Speaking on the partnership, Zoe said: "International training is essential to maintain the necessary standard in snowboarding. I understand how important the BA Great Britons Programme is for budding talent to achieve their dreams, which I'm proud to be supporting."

Fellow Briton, 21-year-old Ben Kilner from Aberdeen, Scotland, is also one of the UK's best snowboarders. Ranked 23rd in the world, he recently achieved first place in the halfpipe at the British Championships.

British Airways increases flights to St Kitts and Nevis

British Airways is increasing the frequency of its flights to St Kitts and Nevis from March 2010 from one to two services a week due to ever increasing demand on the route since its launch in 2009.

From March the airline will commence flying to the popular Caribbean holiday island twice a week, departing from London Gatwick on Saturdays and Tuesdays.

British Airways has announced that following the airline's suspension of its First Class service to Mauritius over the low season summer period this year, it has reintroduced its exclusive First cabin back to the route.

LAN Airlines reports publishes preliminary statistics for September 2009

LAN Airlines S.A. and its subsidiaries, ("LAN" or "the Company") (NYSE: LFL / IPSA: LAN), one of the leading airlines in Latin America, has reported its preliminary monthly traffic statistics and punctuality indicators for September 2009.

System passenger traffic for September increased 11.9% as capacity rose 9.3%. As a result, the Company's load factor increased 1.8 points to 78.8%. International passenger traffic accounted for approximately 71% of total passenger traffic.

Domestic passenger traffic in Chile, Argentina, Peru and Ecuador rose 17.5% as capacity increased 15.0%. As a consequence, the domestic load factor for the month increased 1.6 points to 77.0%. International passenger traffic for September rose 9.8% as capacity increased 7.1%. Accordingly, the international passenger load factor for the month increased 1.9 points to 79.6%. International capacity was mainly driven by an increase in operations on routes to Europe and the South Pacific, partially offset by a decrease on certain regional routes.

In line with the global decrease in the import and export markets, during the month of September cargo traffic decreased 8.0%. This decrease was mainly due to the slowdown in import and export markets in Latin America, as well as the reduction of salmon exports from Chile. In line with the decrease in demand, capacity fell 7.0%, mainly through the reduction of ACMI leases. The cargo load factor reached its highest level this year at 69.8%.

During September, 90.8% of the Company's total flights left on time based on a fifteen-minute standard (all departures leaving within fifteen minutes of the scheduled departure time are considered as "on-time"). This represented an increase of 2.1 points compared to September 2008.

Twins for British Airways Metrotwin on its birthday

British Airways has announced that its social media site Metrotwin.com has celebrated its first birthday along with the launch of its next big twin - Metrotwin Mumbai.

Currently launched in beta format to allow preliminary testing of the site by users, the Mumbai Metrotwin will allow users to blog recommendations on what to do in London and Mumbai.

British Airways head of digital marketing, Chris Davies, said: "Blogging is really taking off in India and as both London and Mumbai share so many of the same characteristics - from its vibrancy to its love of food, we wanted to offer a Metrotwin Mumbai blog."

The Mumbai blog was launched a year ago following the tremendous success of Metrotwin. The British Airways social media site was designed to help travellers find their 'home from home' in London and New York, by providing recommendations from expert bloggers and local communities.

The Metrotwin.com site has successfully grown its loyal user base and is already attracting more than 23,000 unique visits a month. Metrotwin.com's first birthday coincides with British Airways' launch of its new Business Class only service from London City Airport to New York which was launched on the 30th Sept. The advanced technology which is used on board the A318 aircrafts allows customers to safely blog, tweet and even use Metrotwin.com whilst the plane is in flight.
