Nottingham Forest star Eric Lichaj has introduced ‘Gunner’, who is the dog that his wife allowed him to get after he scored a brace during his side’s FA Cup win against Arsenal last weekend, to the public.
The American, who arrived at the City Ground in 2013, when on to score twice for his side as they completed a memorable 4-2 win over Arsene Wenger’s side.
Lichaj revealed after the game that his wife had promised him a dog if he went on to score a hat-trick this season.
On Monday Lichaj took to Twitter asking “anyone who is bored” to send “dog pics, memes, gifs” to @KatPerko-his wifes Twitter handle- and plenty of users joined in using the hashtag #GetEricADog.
On Tuesday, Lichaj announced that his wife had finally give in and that they were the new owners of an arrival named “Gunner”.
“He’s probably more well known than I am now!” he told Sky Sports.
“I’ve been wanting a dog for the last three or four years and I’ve always been showing my wife dog pictures and which breed is best for families, and which of them don’t shed that much because she didn’t want dog hairs.
“So she would always play along with me, then she decided one day she’d had enough of it and told me that I would have to score a hat-trick to get a dog.
“Then the other day against Arsenal I got two, and I got interviewed afterwards and it came to me that I wanted the penalty for the hat-trick for the dog.
“So I thought I’d go on Twitter and put some pressure on her, and the Nottingham Forest fans bombarded her with messages, and she said there were well over 1,000 tweets and pictures, and she’d had enough of it and said I could get one, and here he is!”
