There’s never been a better time to be a vegan in Liverpool. With a host of restaurants cropping up catering exclusively for meat-free diets, the city’s vegan scene is exciting, inventive and increasingly diverse.
Once upon a time, dining out as a vegan meant paying through the nose for a stodgy nut roast or a risotto served by a waiter who seemed more irritated than accommodating of your diet.
Today, there are at least half a million vegans in the UK and cities like Liverpool are at the forefront of the meat-free revolution.
To help you navigate the best places to eat without meat, we’ve rounded up a selection of great vegan and vegetarian-friendly restaurants even meat-eaters will love.
In 2017, City Wine Bar and Kitchen on Old Hall Street reopened under new management offering a variety of delicious, hearty vegan and vegetarian options.
Its menu now includes crowd-pleasers like vegan scotch eggs, vegan sausage and mash, beetroot and puy lentil burgers, vegan scouse and courgette bhaji wraps with spiced onions, mango chutney and crushed poppadoms.
What’s more, you can satisfy your sweet tooth with City Wine Bar and Kitchen’s famous vegan dark chocolate and coconut torte, which comes with a choice of two dairy-free ice creams.
City Wine Bar and Kitchen is also opening a brand new vegan-friendly venue called Pollen, with a menu full of exciting dishes like guinea fowl, roasted sweetcorn risotto, paprika oil, pangrattato, and orange gremolata, which can be easily adapted for vegan and vegetarian diners.
