The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) made the second arrest in the Unnao rape case today as it took into custody Shashi Singh, the woman who allegedly took the 17-year-old victim girl to the prime accused, BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, officials said.
“Yogi Adityanath government is a government of Ravan, which has failed to protect women”, Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said. The Chief Minister had also chose to expel two MLAs from Unnao. “The commission will cater to those who have been left deprived (of the benefits of government schemes) due to conspiracy”, said the chief minister at a function where he was conferred with “Dalit Mitra” (Friend of Dalit) award by Ambedkar Mahasabha. But he got a call from a prominent person and the decision got deferred.
The victim tried to set herself ablaze outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s residence on last Sunday, claiming inaction in the rape case that took place in 2017. “The party has to suffer the effect of this decision”. However, the family cried foul alleging that he was murdered.
Sengar has been accused of rape, intimidation and assault and had a case lodged against him by the Unnao police on Thursday under sections 363, 366, 376 and 506 of Indian Penal Code pertaining to rape, abduction, and intimidation and provisions of POCSO Act.
The victim’s father died in judicial custody nearly a week after he was reportedly thrashed by the MLA’s brother and others.
The CBI has registered three separate cases related to alleged rape of a woman from Unnao by BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar.
