Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier and Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Malcolm Jenkins are the honorary coaches for the Buckeyes’ spring game this morning.
Shazier, an honorary captain on the afternoon, was announced in the first quarter of the Ohio State spring game after driving on the field in a golf cart.
Considering how dire his situation looked and sounded in the immediate aftermath, it’s fantastic to see each and every step in the right direction.
A first-round pick of the Steelers out of Ohio State in 2014, Shazier was in the midst of his second straight Pro Bowl season when he was injured on December 4 while tackling Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Josh Malone.
As you can see in the pictures and video included in this post, Shazier is being videoed and photographed while standing more and more and that certainly is great news.
The 25-year-old Shazier has made steady progress in his recovery, regaining feeling in his legs in early January and starting to walk within two months of the incident.
The 2018 Ohio State spring game kicked off this morning despite a threat of inclement weather.
