WWE Superstar Shake-Up 2018: Mock Draft for Top Raw, SmackDown Picks

0

Finn Balor, Nia Jax, Seth Rollins, Jinder Mahal, Randy Orton and Charlotte Flair could all end up on different brands during the Superstar Shake-up.

WWE’s Superstar Shake-up will take place during Monday’s Raw and Tuesday’s SmackDown Live, and if management makes the right moves, it could change the promotion’s landscape.

Shuffling Superstars from one show to another helps freshen up the product by creating new feuds and contenders for the various titles, but it’s also an opportunity to bring up some new faces from NXT.

The WWE Universe was introduced to The Authors of Pain, The Iconics, No Way Jose and Ember Moon following WrestleMania, but that doesn’t mean we won’t get a few more call-ups.

Let’s take a look at a 30-Superstar mock draft that could create some interesting opportunities for new storylines and championship feuds.

Switching the Midcard Titles

Having Superstars switch brands is necessary to keep the product fresh, but it can also be beneficial to rotate the titles from time to time.

The Miz might be a loudmouth, but he is not wrong when he claims his hard work helped bring back legitimacy to the Intercontinental Championship.

Seth Rollins is a worthy successor and will no doubt continue to make the title feel important by producing show-stealing performances.

The A-Lister could do the same thing for the United States Championship if given the opportunity, so it would make sense to move Jinder Mahal and his belt to Raw while sending The Architect and the IC title to SmackDown.

Not only would this give both champions some new rivals, but it would also allow The Miz to focus on something other than the intercontinental title for the first time in years. And if WWE wants to make The Modern Day Maharaja into a true main event star, putting him on Raw would help.

Taking The Yes Movement to Raw

WWE will want to capitalize on Daniel Bryan’s return to in-ring competition as much as possible, and the best way to do that is by moving him to Raw.

The flagship show will give him more exposure while also presenting him with the chance to face several opponents he has never been in the ring with before.

A potential match with Kurt Angle would make any pay-per-view more special, as would rivalries with the likes of Samoa Joe and Finn Balor.

Then there is The Miz. During his time as the host of Talking Smack, Bryan had to endure countless insults and rants from The A-Lister without any idea of whether they would be able to build on the popularity of their feud.

If Bryan gets drafted to Raw, he would finally have the chance to get his hands on the man who mocked his injuries, child, wife and career on the indy scene.

Tag Team Turmoil

WWE has several incredible tag teams, but it has exhausted just about every possible combination of championship feuds.

Moving The Revival and Titus Worldwide to SmackDown while The Usos, Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin get drafted to Raw would change the division.

We could see matchups like The Usos vs. The Authors of Pain, The Revival vs. The Bludgeon Brothers and The Bar vs. Gable and Benjamin.

If WWE plans on creating tag titles for the cruiserweight division, The Singh Brothers would be a natural fit once Samir has healed up from his injury. If Mahal gets drafted to Raw, Sunil could stay with him until his brother is ready to compete again.

Speaking of cruiserweight tag teams, drafting Sin Cara to 205 Live would allow him to either reunite with Kalisto and his Lucha House Party stable or find a new partner. He isn’t doing anything on SmackDown, so there is no reason to keep him away from the cruiserweight division any longer.

Continuing to Build Momentum in the Women’s Division

WWE’s women’s division has come a long way in just a few years, and it doesn’t look like the company plans to slow down anytime soon.

Like the tag team division, the women’s storylines on Raw and SmackDown have started to become repetitive because of the smaller size of the roster and only having one title on each show.

Charlotte Flair losing the SmackDown Women’s Championship to Carmella is a possible sign she will be drafted. The same can be said about Alexa Bliss, but she is better suited remaining on Raw to feud with Nia Jax.

The Queen is arguably the biggest full-time star in the entire division, and Raw would be able to offer her fresh feuds against the likes of Nia Jax, Ronda Rousey, Moon and Bliss. It would also allow her to revisit her rivalries with Asuka and Sasha Banks.

Naomi and Bayley could also use a change of scenery after spending the past two years with their respective brands. If The Usos are drafted to Raw, it would be nice of WWE to keep the married Jimmy and Naomi on the same show.

Sonya Deville is needs to go to SmackDown. Her character is too similar to Rousey’s, but because of Rowdy’s star-power, Deville would always be playing second fiddle.

On the blue brand, the former MMA fighter has a much better chance of standing out and working her way up the ladder toward a title shot. Deville has all the tools to succeed. She just needs the right door to open at the right time.

The NXT Generation

Bringing up Billie Kay, Peyton Royce, Moon, AOP and No Way Jose to the main roster was a good start, but there are a few more people we might see show up on Monday or Tuesday.

Sanity has been through its ups and downs as a stable, but it has remained one of the most entertaining groups in all of WWE regardless of how its members have been used.

Dain, Wolfe, Cross and Young would be a better fit on SmackDown since Raw already has its own unconventional characters in Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt.

Cross could reignite her feud with Ruby Riott from NXT, and Young also has a history with several stars on the SmackDown roster from his time in both TNA and NXT, so WWE would have no shortage of possible storylines.

Another pair who would be a great addition to the main roster is Andrade “Cien” Almas and Zelina Vega. They have been one of the standout duos in NXT throughout the past year, and it would be amazing to see them take their act to Raw.

Vega has been Almas’ saving grace. She took him from someone who just wanted to party to the guy who stole the show at the past three TakeOver special against Drew McIntyre, Johnny Gargano and Aleister Black.

Almas could end up on 205 Live, but it would be better if he were on the red brand so Vega could remain by his side while also doing her own thing in the women’s division.
